July 2011 - Issue 1
Greetings!

The July 4th Holiday weekend treated us well at Texas Discovery Gardens.  We extended hours to accommodate visitors in the park for fireworks and festivities at the Cotton Bowl and welcomed a wonderful crowd.

We are in high gear preparing to host of our first series of summer camps this July.  If you have some spare time in your schedule in the next 3 weeks, we could sure use your help with our wonderful summer camp kiddos.  If weekday volunteer opportunities are tough to fit into your schedule, we also have some wonderful opportunities to assist with our Basically Beethoven Concert Series and upcoming Butterfly Festival.

As always, feel free to call our Program & Volunteer Manager with questions or suggestions.  We love hearing from you and hope to see you out in the butterfly house or gardens soon!

Join us for our 2nd Annual Butterfly Festival at TDG.  We have children's activities, face painting, butterfly house tours and partnering organizations showcasing reptiles, bugs, butterflies and more scheduled for this fun-filled day.  With the increased foot traffic we are in great need of garden and butterfly house docents, greeters and volunteers to assist with our children's activities.

Butterfly Tea Party featuring Fancy Nancy
Thursday, August 11th, 9.45AM-12.15PM

The Butterfly Tea Party featuring the children's book, Bonjour Butterfly!, from the Fancy Nancy book series is back by popular demand.  This past June we were fortunate to host more than a hundred children and their parents in tutus and feather boas.  Needless to say, we expect a similar turnout for the second party and we need your help!  Volunteer to assist with children's activities related to Fancy Nancy and engaging children in the Fancy Nancy experience.  Feel free to get in touch with the Fancy Nancy inside you and dress up in your own tutus and feather boas.

Calling All Master Gardeners!
Count those contacts!

Help TDG report accurate hours and contact numbers to our Dallas County Master Gardener's every month.  Remember, there's a spot on every volunteer sheet to indicate if you are a MG and your contact numbers for your volunteer shift.  Record your best estimate after every volunteer shift.  If you are a greenhouse volunteer, don't worry about your contacts, but please be sure to record your MG status every entry!
