Greetings!
It's time to start fertilizing your plants for the fall! Give your plants another dose of fertilizer containing phosphorous and potassium. Hold back on nitrogen, which encourages vegetative growth. Plants that start new growth in the fall won't have time to harden off before the first frost. However, phosphorous and potassium encourage root growth, and roots continue to grow throughout the winter. With most organic fertilizers, you don't have to worry about having too much nitrogen.Compost will make a great addition right now because it contains the vital microorganisms that will break down nutrients for roots to absorb.
Learn more green tips at our Dallas Green Festival! (See below for details).
And stay tuned for details on the State Fair of Texas; we've got a sculpture exhibit, an educational display on the Trinity River, and... oh, yeah... $2 admission! Yes, just $2 gets you into the Butterfly House and Gardens once you've entered the State Fair (Sept. 24-Oct. 17; there are State Fair admission and parking fees, even for museum or garden visitors).
Thanks,
Texas Discovery Gardens staff |
You're invited to our Opening Reception
Bringing the Trinity River to Life:
exhibition of paintings inspired by the Trinity River
Thursday, September 2, 6 pm to 8 pm
Follow the Trinity River through the eyes of ten artists from Studio Art & Soul in Texas Discovery Gardens' new exhibit. Nearly 40 works in oil, acrylic and encaustic cover many viewpoints of the river in an exhibit called "Bringing the Trinity River to Life." Each artist has painted his and her inspirations from the Trinity and its surrounding life. The paintings function like a magnifying lens, showing viewers the artistic side to the landscapes, history, and ecosystem of this aquatic lifeline. Free admission for reception.
