Greetings!

We've been busy at Texas Discovery Gardens this summer. Stop by the Gardens and enjoy a stroll through our newly renovated Shakespeare Garden. Bring a picnic and see how many native butterflies you can count. Our dragonflies, turtles and frogs are out in full force, too.

We're also pleased to announce that the renovation of our Rosine Smith Sammons Butterfly House and Insectarium was honored at Preservation Dallas' 11th Annual Preservation Acheivement Awards!

Read on for great summer deals and our program line-up!

Happy Summer,

Summer Camps!
Through the Magnifying Glass
Play in the dirt this summer with our inaugural summer camps! It's not too late to sign up for our last two camps.

Garden Scientists
Date: June 28 - July 2      Time: 9:30 am - 3 pm      Age: 5-6; 7-8
Our garden is the perfect place for a budding mad scientist! Do you know which bugs make the smelliest defense chemicals? Which plants were used as medicine before drug stores existed? How some butterflies become poisonous by what they eat? Learn how plants grow, how they attract pollinators, and how they offer protection for some insects. We will use investigative tools and experiments to explore the garden.

Urban Investigators
Date: July 12-16, 2010      Time: 9:30 am - 3 pm       Age: 5-6; 7-8
Join us as we explore our urban habitat. You will be surprised at how much life you have right in your own backyard. We will dig deep into our compost pile, explore our soil, and leave no area unexplored as we discover how our habitat works. Learn how to enrich your backyard habitat by composting at home, planting native plants, and making homes for feathered friends. See details here.

Looking for something to do this summer? Vow to make every day a little greener--and we've got the perfect way to help you get started!

Project Green LogoWe've passed Earth Day, but you can take those Earth-friendly ideals into the summer and beyond through our  partnership with WFAA-TV's Project Green!  The Project Green Community, which launched in February, is a social-networking site that connects North Texas eco-minded individuals, groups and nonprofits.

Texas Discovery Gardens was selected as a featured nonprofit for this unique venture because of our commitment to educating North Texans about the impact that we all have on the environment and our dedication to helping make real change for the future. We encourage you to join the Project Green Community and continue to support our organic gardening initiative by logging onto WFAA.com/Green.

Participation is free and fun! You can upload pictures and videos of your "green" efforts this summer. Create or join a group and share ideas. You can network with others, find volunteer opportunities, fundraise and support us and other environmental nonprofits.
