Our Organic in the City Fashion Show + Auction is nearly here! See a wonderful article and slide show about it by Marilee Vergati on Examiner.com.

Matthew Trent will be donating a limited number of custom sterling silver pins with our Butterfly Maiden for the Organic in the City Fashion Show + Auction! We're selling them at a special price during the live auction following the show. 100% of the proceeds will fund our educational programs. So you can wear one-of-a-kind art and support your favorite organic garden!
 
We are open daily from 10 am to 5 pm (closed New Year's, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve & Christmas). The last Rosine Smith Sammons Butterfly House & Insectarium admission is sold at 4:15 pm. $8/adults, $6/seniors, $4/children ages 3-11, and free for ages 2 and under.

Butterfly Gardening 101 - Planning and planting your butterfly garden

When: Saturday, March 6

Time: 10 a.m. - 11 a.m.

Cost: $10, $8 members

 

Understand basics like the butterfly lifecycle and host/nectar plants.

Organic in the City Fashion Show and AuctionOrganic in the City

When: Wednesday, March 10

Time: 6:30 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Cost: $40 through today (March 5), $50 after.

Experience cutting edge sustainable and organic couture fashion with Texas Discovery Gardens' second annual Organic in the City Fashion Show and Auction, and then take it home with you, all for a good, green cause! Enjoy an evening of fashion led by WFAA's Gloria Campos.

Highlights include tomorrow's brightest fashion stars with show pieces from El Centro College's Fashion Design students, sustainable designer Ross Bennett's elegant new collection, and Dallas' talented Lindsay Weatherread. Hors D'oeuvres, wine served.

Vermicomposting

When: Saturday, March 20

Time:11 a.m. - noon

Cost: Free with admission

 

Play in the dirt as you learn about these subterranean wonders!

This is a great intro for children.

 

Organic University - Vermicomposting

When: Saturday, March 20

Time:1 p.m. - 3 p.m.

Cost: $20, $16 members

 

Worms play a vital role in cold composting. They can eat junk mail, paper bags, food scraps, and yard waste. Build your own worm bin. Great if you have a small -or no--outdoor space!

Conservation in Action

When: Saturday, March 27

Time:11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Cost: Free; there is a fee to enter the butterfly house

 

Join us for this free community fair at Texas Discovery Gardens and enjoy dozens of kid's crafts and eco-friendly projects, sustainable giveaways, lunch, and more! New this year for adults: free in-depth Earth-Kind® gardening talks by the Dallas County Master Gardener Speaker's Bureau. There is a fee for butterfly house entrance. Partners include the City of Dallas Environmental Education Initiative, University of North Texas, Texas Discovery Gardens, Dallas County Master Gardeners and Texas AgriLife Extension Service.

 

Master Composter Certification Course --Rescheduled 

When: Saturday, Apr. 3
Time:  
9 am to 5:30 pm
Cost:  $50, $40 for members

 

The popular Master Composter Certification Course has come to Dallas through its inaugural offering at Texas Discovery Gardens. If you couldn't make it to our February class, it was postponed due to the snow. Now's your chance to sign up once more!
 
The class includes composting book, lunch, compost thermometer, and worm bin, all courtesy of Living Earth.
