Greetings!
Enjoy a tropical vacation this winter...Right here in Dallas! Make your plans now to visit our Rosine Smith Sammons Butterfly House and Insectarium and relax in a rainforest, no passport required.
The tropical butterflies are nearly here, and we've added exciting new flora like our hanging staghorn fern and tropical pitcher plant. We also have educational signage that unlocks the mysteries of these fascinating insects.
Remember, we are now open daily from 10 am to 5 pm (with the exception of New Year's Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas). The last butterfly house admission is sold at 4:15 pm. Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors, $4 for children ages 3-11, and free for ages 2 and under.
Happy Butterfly Viewing,

2009 Flora Award Honors Ebby Halliday Acers
The Flora Award, one of Dallas' most prestigious charity events, honors one of Dallas' business icons on November 10 at Texas Discovery Gardens. The 2009 Host Committee unanimously chose to salute Ebby Halliday Acers for her tremendous work in community building.
Her leadership and philanthropy efforts have benefited our community across the spectrum of healthcare, education, the arts, and nature conservancy causes. Educating children and their families to appreciate, preserve and restore nature in the urban environment is fundamental to the mission of Texas Discovery Gardens and is also of particular concern to Ebby. |

Seasonal Exhibits
All exhibits are open daily during regular Garden hours
Global Swarming: Reflection and Exploration of Colony Collapse Disorder
Through January 3
Where would we be without pollinators in the natural world? How would this affect food production? Learn about Colony Collapse Disorder, a phenomenon affecting honeybees created by pesticides, introduced pathogens, viruses and possibly genetically modified foods, in this exhibit. Research is ongoing in this critical area. To illuminate this plight, Texas WAX/Dallas has created a group show called Global Swarming.
Pollination Partnerships of Texas
Through November 30
Sponsored by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, this exhibit addresses the amazing plant and pollinator relationship, common Texas pollinators and the ecological services they provide, and what can be done to protect them. Unfortunately, there has been a decline in the numbers of certain kinds of pollinators and the native plants on which they depend. | |
