The planned program featuring the three political party leaders discussing the upcoming provincial election was not possible due to scheduling difficulties. Instead, three dynamic and passionate speakers gave insights into three issues of concern, in the context of the October 6 election.

Dr.Byrne,a founding member and President of the Toronto Chapter of Equal Voice, explained to us how Equal Voice came into being ten years ago. A group of well connected women, including the late Doris Anderson, saw the need to have more women elected to political office. If women represented half the population, then why were there not more women represented at all levels of government?

What Ontario Council has been doing

GREAT LAKES WATER QUALITY AGREEMENT 

Ontario Council, along with National CFUW, Environmental and citizens' groups have sent comments and recommendations in response to Canadian & U.S. negotiators final consultation on the renegotiation of the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement. More

 

POVERTY 

Continuing its action on poverty, Ontario Council has endorsed The 25in5's Call to Action. More

 

As a followup to the Ontario Council AGM 2011 conference, Taking Off the Blinders, CFUW Oakville has created a blog where information can be posted concerning poverty in Ontario and work that CFUW clubs are doing. All the slides from the conference have been posted.  Click Here

MENTAL HEALTH

 The Ontario Council adopted a resolution concerning the serious issue of mental health and addictions, asking for a  Mental Health Strategy for Ontario.More
