Joy in Work
|
"The child who has felt a strong love for his surroundings and for all living creatures, who has discovered joy and enthusiasm in work, gives us reason to hope that humanity can develop in a new direction.
Our hope for peace in the future lies not in the formal knowledge the adult can pass on to the child, but in the normal development of the new man." -Dr. Maria Montessori Education and Peace, page 58 |

Greetings!
After an exciting summer of fun and exploration, we are ready for the 2011-12 school year! The teachers have been busy preparing the classrooms and curriculum, we have been working hard in the office to make sure all of the paperwork is in order, and some exciting technological changes have been happening. Montessori Stepping Stones is now on facebook and twitter, we are nearly finished developing our smartphone app, and the website construction is underway. Please take a moment to "like" us on facebook.com/montessoristeppingstones, or follow us on twitter: @Montessori_SS. Now that the back-to-school bug has bitten all of us, we can't wait to get started. We are so happy to have you join us on our adventure! |
 | Summer Program | Summer has been an adventure here at Montessori Stepping Stones. All of the children have been very busy enjoying the summer sun, exploring the new developments that nature has had to offer, experiencing new and exciting works in the classrooms, and getting out into world.
Infants and toddlers have been getting out into the community by taking walks around our campus as well as the neighborhood. Some favorite activities included water play, sandbox, and painting. While enjoying summer nature, the children have continued their quest for independence as the teachers help them to "help themselves" on a daily basis.
The primary classroom children, those entering the preschool and kindergarten programs for the upcoming year, have continued their work through the Montessori curriculum while experiencing many new activities this summer. From sidewalk chalk to art projects, and from hammering nails into cantaloupes to making bird feeders, the children have had a great time with the summer curriculum.
Our elementary Kids Club students have been busy with language and math curriculum, science experiments, art projects, water days, and going out trips such as: strawberry and apple picking, Detroit Children's Museum, Detroit Zoo, golfing, Sterling Heights Nature Center, Wilcott Mills Farms, and hiking. What a blast! Thank you, students, for enjoying summer with us at school. It was truly a lot of fun! |
 | Back-to-School Reminders | - Parking Policy: We require that all preschool, kindergarten, and elementary families drop off and pick up their children via the large back lot of the Presbyterian Church (on Union Street). Only infant and toddler families may use the front lot of their building at 178 Cass Avenue. There is no parking in front of the main building at 174 Cass Avenue.
- Nut-Free Environment: Several of our students have severe allergies to peanut and tree nut products. As a result, it is critical that our school always remain completely free of any product containing peanut or tree nut ingredients.
- School Shoes: Proper shoes greatly impact your child's school day. Please provide your child with classroom shoes, playground shoes, and winter boots (for snow and/or mud).
- Enrollment Paperwork: Please be sure that you have submitted all of your paperwork, including your 10% deposit, in order to enroll your child in the 2011-12 school year.
- Limited Openings: Many of our programs are quickly filling to capacity. Please continue to spread the word and express the importance of submitting an application while there is still a possibility of placement.
- September Payment: Your second of ten equal tuition payments, your September payment, is due the first day of school. Please be sure you have reviewed our new payment policy and submit your payment in a timely manner.
