| STEP into the Quiet Zone | Many middle school students spill into the library when the dismissal bell rings. They are waiting for rides, someone to come home to let them in, or stop in to visit with friends. The scene is a familiar one and managing a youth room filled with hungry, anxious, social tweens/teens isn't easy. Libraries play an important role as a community resource, and we are taking another STEP (Study ~ Tutoring ~ Enrichment Program). GPPL will launch a pilot program at the Woods Branch on school days, during the hours of 3:30-5:30pm. Partnering with the GPPSS, CARE of Southeast Michigan, school parent/teacher/community organizations, we will offer homework resources, computer workshops & other enrichment programs. All students must have a valid GPPL card as required ID. The program launches on March 26, 2012. |
