Activate Buffalo County (A Workgroup of Buffalo County Community Partners)

Activate Buffalo County

The vision of Activate Buffalo County is to create awareness, advocacy, and excitement about activity and the importance of designing our community for active and healthy lifestyles.

Activate Buffalo County (ABC) is part of the 5 Strategic Directions of Buffalo County Community Partners: Active Living & Healthy Eating, High Impact Prevention Services, Eliminate Health Disparities, Injury-Free Living, and Healthy Homes & Sustainable Communities. ABC is part of the Active Living & Healthy Eating Strategic Direction.

To further the Strategic Direction of Active Living & Healthy Eating, as well as the mission of the coalition, ABC has launched a year-long campaign called Join the Movement (JTM). This campaign is broken into four quarters (Unplug, Rethink Your Drink, Lighten Up, and Be Active), with each quarter highlighting a different way to improve the life of community members. Unplug encouraged community members to spend less time in front of screens like televisions, computers and iPads. Rethink Your Drink educated community members on the amount of sugar they take in through their beverages and encouraged them to choose water over other drinks. The third quarter, Lighten Up, will give daily tips and challenges on how community members can make healthier (lighter) food choices, such as eating more fruits and vegetables. The final quarter, Be Active, will highlight the positive effects of getting physical activity into the day and encouraging community members to be more physically active.

Activate Buffalo County strives to engage all aspects of a community in their work, from businesses and work places, to schools, faith communities and more. In order to create positive change, there must be a change in the mindset of the entire community.
