Photovoice is a tool that combines photography with grassroots social action. Participants are asked to represent their community or point of view by documenting their lives through photography, discussing the photos together, developing narratives to go with their photos, and conducting outreach or other action.

Why use Photovoice for Partners N Health?

Partners across Nebraska are working to implement the Nebraska Physical Activity and Nutrition State Plan's strategies and activities to make the healthy choice the easy choice in their communities. The Partners N Health Photovoice project will give partners the opportunity to tell their communities' success stories through photos and share how they are working to support healthy eating, active living, and breastfeeding in Nebraska.

For example:

·         Does your community host a farmers market?

·         Do children in your community walk or bike to school?

·         Does your workplace have a nursing mother's room?

·         Is locally produced food served at your school?

Photos of successes such as these can tell the story of how Nebraskans are working to create a healthier state through the eyes and camera lenses of our partners.

To get you thinking:

·         What kinds of healthy eating, active living, or breastfeeding successes are happening in my community?

·         What kinds of barriers exist in my community that prevent people from living a healthy lifestyle?
