NE AFHK
Nebraska Action for Healthy Kids
Nebraska Action for Healthy Kids (NE AFHK), affiliated with national Action for Healthy Kids, is the only nonprofit organization in Nebraska formed specifically to address the epidemic of overweight, sedentary, and undernourished youth by focusing on changes in schools to improve nutrition and increase physical activity. They are a public-private partnership with 300+ members from a variety of organizations and government agencies representing education, health, fitness, and nutrition throughout the state of Nebraska. The mission of NE AFHK is to engage and educate diverse organizations, leaders, youth, and volunteers in actions that improve school-aged children's nutrition and physical activity.

Over the past six years, NE AFHK has hosted a statewide Summit to bring together schools, community partners, and students to learn more about how schools can become healthier places. This year's Summit theme is "Leading at all Levels: What's Your Role?" The Summit will be held on April 19 from 8 AM to 3:30 PM CST at the Center for People in Need Conference Center in Lincoln.

NE AFHK is also planning their first (hopefully annual) Get in the Action event for Fall 2012. The event would partner NE AFHK with a school and bring in volunteers to provide service for a "day of action" to make the school a healthier place. They will also encourage schools across the state to choose a "day of action" to make their school healthier.

The NE AFHK state team meets quarterly and regularly communicates resources and opportunities for school via a member listserv. The all-volunteer coalition is made stronger by dedicated, passionate members interested in working together to give Nebraska kids opportunities for healthy eating and physical activity. Join NE AFHK today and become a member!
