Reston Station The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority is constructing a 23-mile extension of the Metrorail system, which will be operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority from East Falls Church to Washington Dulles International Airport. The extension will serve the Reston-Herndon area, the state's second largest employment concentration. It will provide a one-seat ride from Dulles International Airport to downtown Washington. Dogwood Project Progressing

Reston Association has determined that the Dogwood Pool renovation project will be completed by the end of September. RA officials recently discussed the progress of the project with contractor NVblu Inc., and said the grand re-opening of the Green Range Road facility is on schedule.
The renovations will include additional parking, a new bath house and 25-meter lap pool, as well as many other improvements. The Dogwood upgrades are part of RA's long-range pool renovations strategy. The association operates 15 pools in Reston.

Tours de Reston Schools Saturday, Aug. 4 and Sunday, Aug. 5
9 a.m.-noon (or to completion)
Parents, children and interested Reston residents are welcome to join members of Reston Association's Pedestrian and Bicycling Advisory Committee (PBAC) as they bicycle between Reston's public schools on the south and north sides of Route 267 during two separate rides, surveying existing bicycle parking facilities in order to assist with improvements. Tentatively, the Saturday ride will start at Hunters Woods Elementary school on the south side. Sunday's ride is scheduled to begin at Buzz Aldrin Elementary school in north Reston. Bring the kids and check out Reston Association's big trucks at this free event. In addition, RA may have a police and fire truck on display. The first 400 children will receive a truck coloring book and a "Totally Trucks" construction helmet. Parking is limited. Plan to carpool or park next door at the YMCA. Rain or shine. Geocaching for All Saturday, Aug. 11 11 a.m.-Noon Walker Nature Center, 11450 Glade Drive. $4/person RA members, $6/person Non-members. For all ages (Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.) Reservations required by Aug. 8. Please call 703-476-9689 or e-mail naturecenter@reston.org. Geocaching is high-tech treasure hunting, using a handheld GPS unit to find hidden containers. Start with a short lesson in using the GPS unit, and then look for hidden caches on the nature center property. Let us know if you will need to borrow a GPS unit. |

Kids will play a game of "wild tracking" to solve a forest mystery. Go log rolling with a naturalist to discover what creatures you can uncover. Build a shelter using only natural objects. Finish your adventure around a campfire with a favorite campfire treat. |
