 Ask Kelly

Dear Kelly,

What is the protocol for water therapy for a lymphedema patient; whether upper or lower extremity? (asking for a patient of hers)

Jane

Dear Jane,

Peninsula BioMedical, Inc does not have a specific protocol to recommend in regards to water therapy, however there are several excellent sources for this information. While we can not recommend or endorse any specific program, we do encourage patients to discuss a therapy and exercise program that is appropriate for their specific case with their health care provider. Patient life style, health history and other current medical conditions all play a role in what is the best program for each patient.

Below is a link to an article that gives very specific information and instructions. The link leads to a PDF that can be printed and discussed between the patient and their health care giver. Most patients find that incorporating such a program into their maintenance proves beneficial.

Sincerely,
Kelly
