The workgroup met again on August 9th to continue our work to:
1. Prioritize proposed ideas for new incentive measures;
2. Identify models that already exist and connect them to the priorities selected;
3. Identify when more details on specific measures need to be tied to the proposed measures; and,
4. Come to agreement on a workgroup product.

By now you have probably heard about the exciting event happening on September 19th at DCSS headquarters in Rancho Cordova. The Department of Child Support Services (DCSS) and the Department of Social Services (DSS) are hosting a IV-A/IV-D Partnership Meeting at the DCSS headquarters in Rancho Cordova from 11:30 to 5:00 p.m. This partnership meeting will reaffirm the need for our programs to closely coordinate to better serve our shared customers and provide an opportunity to interact with your program partners.

Supreme Court Holds No Right to Appointed Counsel in South Carolina Civil Contempt Case

In Turner v. Rodgers et al., No. 10-10, ---U.S.---, 131 S. Ct. 2507, 180 L.Ed. 2d 452 (6/20/2011), the United States Supreme Court considered whether an indigent citee in a civil contempt matter is entitled to appointed counsel if he faces incarceration. The Court reviewed a child support judgment of contempt affirmed by the Supreme Court of South Carolina, where a year's imprisonment was ordered.

Like many other local child support agencies in California, the County of Los Angeles Child Support Services Department (CSSD) recently celebrated its 10th year as a stand-alone county department. During this ten year period, the Department has transitioned from a law enforcement agency to a social service, anti-poverty agency focused on children and families.

The challenge this year, as I'm sure has been the case in years past, is there is just so much to talk about! My personal goal in constructing the agenda is to ensure that all attendees leave on Wednesday feeling like it was time well spent.

Members of the Video Production Workgroup visited the Central California Women's Facility (CCWF) in Chowchilla on Monday, August 22, 2011. The purpose of the visit was to meet with a female focus group as part of the preparation for the creation of a female version of the incarceration video.
