Warm and balmy temperatures had lulled me into forgetting that we're really into winter! I procrastinated! I put off attending to a few things to prepare our home! Then, icy roads and some snow shook me into reality.
If you've found yourself in a similar situation, you might find this checklist helpful.
We're into the new year now. How are you doing on your New Year's resolutions? Perhaps one of your goals this year is to finally get organized and remove leftover items from around your house. If so, read on to learn what you should do with your old electronics.
As mentioned previously, my successful Home Buyers Workshop series will resume in February. See below for details.

What Should I Do with My Old Electronics?
Sell
...To a buy-back website. Online resellers such as YouRenew.com, Gazelle.com, and NextWorth.com allow you to sell your old electronics for cash, or recycle them if they aren't worth anything. You can also sell your old gadgets to Amazon, provided they meet certain criteria. Once you receive a free quote online, print a pre-paid shipping label and mail your gadgets to the reseller.
...On eBay or Craigslist. Many people turn to these popular websites to sell a variety of items. eBay has partnered with the Rethink Initiative to help you sell, donate, or recycle your old technology.
...Back to the manufacturer. Many manufacturers, including Apple, Sony, Toshiba, and Hewlett-Packard, offer trade-in programs that will pay market value for your computers and equipment, depending on the condition of these items. Visit the manufacturers' websites for more information.
Donate
Many non-profit organizations accept donations of electronic devices, especially computers and office equipment. Visit Recycles.org for more information about how to donate electronic devices to organizations near you.
Things to Remember Before Donating
- Be sure to erase any private information from the hard drive.
- Call the receiving organization to make sure they will accept the type and condition of electronics you wish to donate.
- Write down what you donated; you may be able to write off the market value of the computer at tax time.
Recycle
Since electronics are made of precious metals and hazardous materials, it's dangerous to send them to landfills. Electronics recycling recovers the usable materials from the device and safely disposes of the hazardous waste. Visit EcoSquid.com or Earth911.com for more information about where to recycle your electronics locally.

Tapping Into Our Local Talent
This month I'm pleased to share the next featured clip from my ongoing video series dubbed "Tapping Into Our Local Talent", in which I interview local experts.
I'd like to introduce you to Ted Ciolkosz, an independent financial advisor with Investment Advisory Group, LLC. Click on the video below to watch his interview.

Tapping Into Our Local Talent: Ted Ciolkosz of Investment Advisory Group
|
Just before taking the entrepreneurial plunge, Ted took 6 months to hike the Appalachian Trail - an experience he says changed his life.
He believes he stands out from others in his industry because he puts his fiduciary obligations above personal interests. If there are two equivalent products a financial advisor could offer his client, most would offer the one with the higher commission. In contrast, Ted takes seriously his fiduciary responsibility as a registered investment advisor to put the client's interests first.
As an independent advisor, Ted can conduct business with any kind of client, and offer him/her true choices. He's saved his clients a great deal of time, aggravation, and money by being thorough and detail-oriented in his reviews.
Contact Ted at 781-826-1235 x16 (w) or 617-230-0683 (cell), email him at tedciolkosz@iagadvisors.com, or visit him on the web at www.iagadvisors.com.

My goal throughout this video project has been to let the public know about available options and to help business experts I trust to grow their businesses.
Please forward the video links to anyone you know who could benefit from the services of one of the local experts interviewed. The videos are also posted on my blog, Facebook page, and YouTube Channel. Tune in regularly to see our latest episode.

Book Review:
Win
by Dr. Frank Luntz
|
This is one of the best books that I have read recently in the business category: insightful and practical. In Win, Dr. Luntz identifies the attributes of Winners. He writes, "What makes this book unique...is that it spans the width and breadth of American life, from business to politics, from sports to entertainment. This book compiles key characteristics and language lessons from each industry and leader into a single collection because we can learn greatness from the most extraordinary among us." He identifies Nine Principles of Winning: people-centered, paradigm-breaking, prioritization, perfection, partnership, passion, persuasion, persistence, and principled action. He describes style, substance, and the use of words that are most impactful given contemporary culture, with an emphasis that principled action must be the foundation of each "p". Highly recommend it! Click here to view the book on Amazon. |

Real Estate Market Trends in Plymouth County, MA
| |
From my perspective, most of the sales I had in 2011 reflect a pattern that may continue into 2012. There is a common thread in the market place. For the most part, the properties that are on the market are homes that are in a short sale position, are facing foreclosure, are dealing with the issues of a divorce, or have been inherited due to a family member's passing. There appear to be several stabilizing trends in Plymouth County: the number of single-family homes increased by 19%, the number of days on the market decreased by 8%, and the average sale price stayed somewhat steady. I'm optimistic these trends will continue into 2012. Certainly, there will be bumps along the way, but the promising trend for 2012 appears to be "slow and steady".
