My First Three Months
  -a Message from
Shelterhouse Executive Director Janine Ouderkirk

Dear Friends,

When I think back over my first three months as the Executive Director at Shelterhouse, I am amazed at all that I've learned and I am honored to have the privilege to serve in this capacity.  I have a quote on my office wall that says, "Everyday holds the possibility of a Miracle."  Shelterhouse is often the conduit of change in many lives, and I'm sure many of the women, children and men served would agree, that this change is a miracle they didn't believe
possible before meeting the committed staff at Shelterhouse.

I am humbled by the giving nature, the generosity, and support of our community.  Almost immediately, I was immersed in the 100 Men or More Campaign which saw 165 men raise over $18,000 to support Shelterhouse programming and more importantly, take a stand against Domestic Violence. I'm excited to announce that Shelterhouse is the recipient of more than $10,000 from the Midland 100 Club, which, through the generosity of the Herbert H. & Grace A. Dow Foundation, will be matched 4:1 to help build our endowment.

As we work to meet our mission, it is comforting to know that our communities, Midland and Gladwin, are with us as we walk this journey building healthy relationships, strong families and safe communities.
