Makeovers Result in Spaces Filled with Faith, Hope, and Love
Shelterhouse averages over 4000 nights of shelter every year. The bedrooms and bathrooms at
Shelterhouse had not been renovated since 1998 and the well-used rooms were worn. This past spring and summer volunteers tore out carpet, painted, and contributed countless hours of labor to the renovation of the five bedrooms, bathroom, hall, and stairwell. Funds and items for the project (new paint, lighting, furniture, flooring, bathroom fixtures, and bedding) were generously donated. by private donors, businesses, and  church groups.
We would like to sincerely say thank you to the many generous individual donors as well as
The Blessed Sacrament Adult Outreach Team,  St. John's Episcopal Church, United Church of Christ,  Auburn United Methodist Church, Midland Kiwanis Foundation, St. John's Episcopal Church,  Absolute Therapeutic Massage, Midland Reformed Church, First Baptist Church, St. John's Lutheran,
Holy Family Episcopal, Designed by Julie, LLC (Kitchen & Bath Studio), Builders Plumbing & Heating Supply, Capital Granite, Inc., Ratcliffe Builders LLC, and River City Tile and Stone.

Your  donations of time, talent, and treasure have created spaces filled with faith, hope, & love.

If you or a group of individuals would like to help  there is still one bathroom which needs funding and labor. The makeover will include a complete tear out and replacement of all fixtures. Please contact Shelterhouse at 835-6771 for more information if you'd like to get involved.

A Project Coordinator's Passion

 In honor of Carrie Kram.

If you asked Linda Muller what reason/passion motivated her to be the project coordinator for the extensive bedroom/bathroom makeover at Shelterhouse this past spring and summer, you would learn about Carrie Kram. Carrie was a former member of a Shelterhouse women's support group run by staff member Robin Greiner.

Carrie was a dear friend of Linda's. Sadly in July of 2011 Carrie was shot and murdered by her spouse, who then took his own life. Linda stated this was a shock to all who knew her, and a very sad ending to her attempts to leave her husband. Combine this with Linda discovering that the rooms had not been thoroughly updated since Shelterhouse began in its current location in 1998 and you have a woman on a mission.

Through excellent team efforts the renovation needs were identified, the funds were solicited and found, and volunteers took on the hard work to make it all a reality.

Team from Blessed Sacrament

It has been a rewarding process for Linda. She saw socially conscientious people and organizations rallying around a great cause. She enjoyed meeting some of the volunteers and observing their pride in providing a mission project right here in Midland.

Linda recounts for instance, the United Church of Christ team, headed up by Sherrie Clark Lovell, (Shelterhouse board member) were the first to take on a bedroom known as the "bunk room". Through Sherrie's leadership  and enthusiasm the whole congregation of this church was involved in some way with the renovation including sewing, painting, carpentry, tiling, and plumbing.

Linda is quick to

Bunk Room by United Church of Christ

point out that this is just one example of a church's involvement and by no means is meant to exclude the others. She is grateful to all.

...and we are grateful to Linda for her commitment and passion for the Shelterhouse makeover project.
