Welcome Janine Ouderkirk

We are pleased to announce that Janine Ouderkirk has been named the new Executive Director of the Council on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (Shelterhouse), effective June 25.

"The CDVSA board is excited to announce that Janine Ouderkirk has accepted the position of Executive Director. After a thorough due diligence process we are confident Janine is the best candidate. Her passion for the mission of Shelterhouse along with her proven expertise and her commitment to our community will make her a great leader for Shelterhouse." -Ann Kelly, CDVSA Board President

"As a life-long resident of Midland County, with close family ties to Gladwin County, I am committed to improving the lives of all people in our region, and look forward to the opportunity to do so in this new capacity. Violence is not just somewhere else, it is right here, in our communities, and sometimes, in our homes. I have seen the hard work, dedication and effectiveness of the work by the staff and volunteers of Shelterhouse and am honored to join their efforts."
 -Janine Ouderkirk

Teens for TAG

Shelterhouse is building a Teen Advisory Group (TAG) for our Midland and Gladwin county offices.

  • Have fun with friends while doing great things for other youth in your community.
  • Help reduce dating violence among teens by learning what it looks like.
  • Develop your leadership skills.
  • Learn how to help plan community service projects especially for young people
  • Participate in a volunteer experience that looks great on applications for NHS, college entrance, employment, and scholarships.

TAG is designed to help increase understanding about the challenges children and teens face, especially about topics such as dating violence, assault, and support. Applications are now being accepted. The goal of TAG is to empower young people as leaders to create awareness about healthy relationships and healthy decision-making. Young people in grades 8 through 12 who live in Midland or Gladwin counties can be a TAG member. Meetings will be held once every other month. Please click here for an application.
