PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

The SBMC has rich history, values and traditions.  Our members have different backgrounds but what unites us is our desire to make our city a better place to live and work. When we impact our community in positive ways, we also contribute to the success of our club, the Oldest Business and Civic Organization in Jacksonville.  As we celebrate our Club's 80th Anniversary this year, we reflect on our past with pride, we're excited about our present, and we look forward to a bright future.

This week, the SBMC is all about the cars - we are having the Car expo panel at our regular meeting on Wednesday and the 2nd Annual SBMC Car Show on Saturday.  It's going to be a lot of fun and I hope you join us this week and help our Club raise some money.  I look forward to seeing you there!

Quote of the week: "Respect your fellow human being, treat them fairly, disagree with them honestly, enjoy their friendship, explore your thoughts about one another candidly, work together for a common goal and help one another achieve it". -- Bill Bradley

Galina Schott,

2012 SBMC President

MEMBERSHIP CORNER

Some blessings in life are finite in nature and have to be shared sparingly. But being a member of the SBMC is a blessing of another type. The more you share it, the more you will benefit. The members of our club that get the most enjoyment and benefit out of It both personally and professionally are the ones who are the best about sharing the advantages of membership. They make a habit out of inviting their friends, colleagues, relatives, competitors, vendors, neighbors and just about anyone else they come in contact with. Those members end up creating a buzz about themselves and their business. Make yourself one of those types of members and the advantages you enjoy from your membership and connections will be compounded. I look forward to meeting your guests and introducing you to mine. Together we will make this club and this city something to be that much more proud of while doing our friends, ourselves and our businesses a favor.

Scott Schilbrack,

2012 SBMC Membership Chair

The Musical "Another Sign" by Mike White

Thank you for all of your support of the Musical Another Sign. So many in Southside Business Men's Club have been supporting me in this venture for many years. A few bullet points on the project.

- We are raising Money and Awareness for nonprofits that supply services to the homelessness like City Rescue Mission, Safehouse of Jacksonville, Hands on Jacksonville, Mission House, Family Promise and others.

- Over $80,000 in media has been donated from The Florida Times Union, Renda Broadcasting, Jax4kids, BUZZ, Clearchannel Radio, NBC, ABC, FOX, CBS, WJCT, RSVP Publications, Money Pages and others

- PBS is making a documentary out of this project and taping the production for possible syndication. Over 4300 homeless people on a given night in Jacksonville  and only 900 transitional beds.

Please come to see the musical on Thursday 9/27 - it's the Military night and Congressman Crenshaw and Jackie Smith will be joining us at the Wilson Center for the Arts. Tickets are only $10 to the SBMC members, use the promo code sbmc at www.itsanothersign.com
