PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Last month, I attended the 6th Annual Ultimate CEO Awards luncheon hosted by the Jacksonville Business Journal. The program honored CEOs in Northeast Florida for their outstanding commitment to excellence, their leadership roles within their own organization and their unmatched contributions to the local community.  One of the reasons I attended the luncheon was to show our support for Brent Brown, the CEO of Latitude Global.  Brent was one of the 2012 top company leader Honorees recognized during the ceremony.

On behalf of the Southside Business Men's Club, I congratulated Brent on his great success.  I also expressed my gratitude for Latitude 30's support of the SBMC's Charity.  As many of you know, Latitude 30 was the Title Sponsor of the SBMC 17th Annual Charity Golf Classic earlier this year and helped us raise a record-breaking amount of money.

It was exciting to learn about the Latitude Cares initiative and to realize that the SBMC is one of 70 Charities that Latitude Global has been supporting.  As Brent and his partners have enjoyed success, they've made it a priority to give back to the community.  Brent Brown believes that "People will become more aware of the need to give back to the community through charities. Give back to the community and they will give back to you!"

I enjoyed the Ultimate CEO Awards ceremony and I also enjoyed the presentation of the keynote speaker Andre J van Rensburg on the Topic of Synergy.  He is a recognized expert on creating successful and sustainable TEAMS and has motivated thousands of people sharing his belief that "Together Everyone Achieves More Success".

Quote of the week: "Individual commitment to a group effort - that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work." ~ Vince Lombardi

MEMBERSHIP CORNER

As we celebrate the strength and pride of our work force this Labor Day, I am proud to be part of such a prestigious business club. I always tell potential new members that what I like best about the Southside Business Men's Club is that our members are very genuine: not only do we support each other professionally, but personally as well. As I walk through the meeting room, I hear people asking each other "how is your business doing," or "how is your mom (or dad or son or daughter)?". It brings a smile to my face, and I know that we gain even more by getting more involved and getting to know each other better. Keep bringing guests and encouraging quality people to join. Don't forget, we are having our biggest contest ever, awarding $1,000 cash to the member who brings in the most new members through December.

SBMC CAR SHOW -- SEPTEMBER 29th

How would you like to be able to connect with 50-100 classic car owners?  It's simple - a little gift card, a pen, a coozie or some kind of neat widget that advertises your business in our goodie bags that go to every participant in our 2nd Annual SBMC Car Show at Hooters at Tinseltown.

Want to spend the day with these same people?  For as little as $50 you can have a 10'x10' area to set up a booth.  It was a roaring success last year, so fire up your engines and motor on over on September 29th from 10am - 2pm.

For more information email Desi Desiderio at [email protected]

Sponsorship spots are still available.  Don't miss out on this fun event for the whole family.

LABOR DAY -- MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 3rd

Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.

The first Labor Day holiday was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City.  In 1884 the first Monday in September was selected as the holiday.

The vital force of labor added materially to the highest standard of living and the greatest production the world has ever known and has brought us closer to the realization of our traditional ideals of economic and political democracy. It is appropriate, therefore, that the nation pays tribute on Labor Day to the creator of so much of the nation's strength, freedom, and leadership - the American worker. Happy Labor Day!
