PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

I am happy to introduce you to the SBMC's new Executive Secretary Cherri Coombs Ohmer.  Cherri was born and raised in Jacksonville and has over 14 years of experience in association management. She currently manages 3 small non-profit organizations - as an Executive Director of NAIFA (National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors) Jacksonville and NAIFA Ocala and also as a Chapter Executive of Society of Financial Service Professionals of Northeast FL.

Cherri has served on various National and State committees for membership, member benefits, political action and political involvement.  I believe that she will be a great asset to our Club and I look forward to working with her.  Please join me in welcoming Cherri to the Southside Business Men's Club.

I would like to thank our very own Representative Charles McBurney for delivering an outstanding program last week with only minutes to prepare.  His remarks detailed what it is like to be a state legislator and some of the rules involved.  He gave us a brief summary of a few bills he has been working on, including LLC reform, Ethics Rule enforcement, and the Arts in regards to education and how to contribute to a more cultured generation.  Additionally, he answered several questions regarding campaign advertising regulations.  I enjoyed Charles' presentation and I would like to take this opportunity to wish him well on his new term in the Florida House of Representatives.

Quote of the week: "A gentle word, a kind look, a good-natured smile can work wonders and accomplish miracles." -- William Hazlitt

Have a great week and I look forward to seeing you on Wednesday.

Galina Schott,

2012 SBMC President

BOARD MEMBER PROFILE -- AJ Richwine
Things you may or may not know about our Board Member,

Alton John Richwine:

  • Born many sea tides ago in Brooklyn, NY Naval hospital and appropriately nick named by the nurses Boats.  So conveniently, immediately thereafter I was baptized on board the troopship "President Adams" which my father was the supply officer.
  • The next seven years we traveled to naval bases from Norfolk, Corpus Christie, Olathe and finally settled in Michigan. My brother and sister were born the in Naval hospital in Norfolk-Portsmouth
  • All of my youth was focused on the shores of Lake Erie with boating, fishing, ice skating and lots of fun.
  • High school I was multi-tasking by playing trumpet in H.S. Band, played football centered over the ball both offensively as well as defensive middle guard.
  • In my junior year, I began a 5-year career as an emergency room orderly, always around good looking ladies was my focus as it is today.College was tough to stay in tune; I loved making money and was in and out of classes but managed, after a few extra years, get out with an accounting and B.A. degree.
  • I did few a years in a CPA practice; not my bag. I started working in my father's commercial construction company, selling, accounting, digging, and launched John Richwine Realty.  At first, I just sold houses but not long after i began selling businesses and investment real estate for many years in Ann Arbor, MI.
  • Beforehand,  I slipped in six years in the Ohio national guard and got married for the first time to my party time girl for 12 years and then met my guiding light wife#2 of 26 years, Sherri, who immediately straightened me out to be a respectable citizen, comparably,  to this very day.  Sherri is truly a beautiful woman in and out, she was really hot!  But unfortunately today her brain is literally shrinking and rotting away from unknown causes and waits for her death in Atria assisted living home. Our move to Jacksonville in 2008 was to give her a better life style than Michigan's snow and ice.
  • Sherri has a son and daughter and they have had a total of 5 daughters (3yrs. To 9 yrs.) and who affectionately call me Papa John and Sherri YAYA.

MEMBERSHIP CORNER

Friday night the Jaguars kicked off their season with their new slogan "All In!"  What an exciting game it was with the Jags first preseason game win against NY Giants!

All In means not only having a plan for success but NOT bothering to have one for failure. If you are going to succeed in life or business or any worthwhile endeavor, you will need to map out a course that will get you to where you need to be. You may run into obstacles you'll have to navigate but you will not need to prepare yourself for the possibility of failure if you tell yourself it won't happen. Block it out of your mind, and know that coming up short is not an option.

Getting the most out of your SBMC membership is no different. Those who attend irregularly and wait to see what is in it for them before fully committing, will see limited benefits from membership. Those who are "All In" will invest whatever it takes, attend whenever possible and do whatever is necessary for the success and growth of the club.  Those are the members who will find that the return on their invested time and resources dwarfs what they have put in and will enjoy a more rewarding and lucrative experience as members. Are you "All In"?

SBMC CAR SHOW -- SEPTEMBER 29th

How would you like to be able to connect with 50-100 classic car owners?  It's simple - a little gift card, a pen, a coozie or some kind of neat widget that advertises your business in our goodie bags that go to every participant in our 2nd Annual SBMC Car Show at Hooters at Tinseltown.

Want to spend the day with these same people?  For as little as $50 you can have a 10'x10' area to set up a booth.  It was a roaring success last year, so fire up your engines and motor on over on September 29th from 10am - 2pm.  For more information email Desi Desiderio at desi@d3business.com.

Sponsorship spots are still available.  Don't miss out on this fun event for the whole family.

CARNIVAL CRUISE RAFFLE

What a treat we have for our first raffle this year, a Carnival Cruise for 2 we acquired from our own Loretta Crescente of Carnival Cruise Lines.  The certificate is good for 17 months and has no restrictions.  This is a great opportunity for those of you who have never tried a cruise before. $10 for one chance $25 for 3 - we have limited tickets. Get yours now so you don't miss out on a chance for this great vacation!  We will be selling tickets at the meeting or contact Nancy Bennett at nbennett@livingimagephoto.com
