| During our weekly meetings, we are all reminded that the purpose of the Southside Business Men's Club is to promote the material, civic, and social improvement and betterment of Duval County in general, and specifically to promote the welfare and advancement of the Southside of Jacksonville. Our Club's purpose is one of the reasons we pay close attention to important issues in Duval County.
I would like to thank our Civic Affairs Committee for organizing three meetings featuring candidates who are running for the Duval County School Board. I hope the forums have helped our members make informed decisions about the candidates. Election of the right School Board members is important because they are the official policy-makers for all education-related issues for the Duval County Public School System.
The way we address today's challenges in Public Schools will determine their future success. I believe we need strong School Board leadership and I encourage you to vote on August 14th and let your voice be heard. This election is vitally important and your decision could ultimately improve our Public School System.
Quote of the week: "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." -- Nelson Mandela
Have a great week and I look forward to seeing you on Wednesday!

2012 SBMC President |

Last week we welcomed new members to our club, bringing our total to 62 New Members so far this year! We are on track to meet our goal of 100 new members for 2012 -- a record, just in time for our 80th Anniversary.
New members bring new enthusiasm, ideas and energy. Let's keep it up, so please continue to invite guests and encourage them to join our great organization. When the club thrives, we all thrive!

Everyone loves the SBMC HOLIDAY GALA, and as this is the Club's 80th Anniversary, our event on December 8th will be very special!
In the past, Club members Donn Carr and Hillary Carpenter, have stepped up and made Bar Sponsor donations. This year, Nancy Bennett of Living Image Photography has generously donated $500 to co-sponsor this year's libations. However, there is still more to do.
If anyone has the ability left in this year's budget, we would greatly appreciate any help in this regard. Your generosity will be mentioned on the invitations, before and during the event itself.
Tim Howe,
2012 SBMC 4th Vice President |
