CRUMP'S CORNER

MEETING WITH THE SBMC

Over the past 80 years, the Southside Business Men's Club has held their meetings at some great and not so great eating establishments.

But 1994 was really special. Our 1994 President was Gene Bushor. We were meetingat the Sheraton St. John's Place for about three weeks into the year. The hotel decided they needed the room for another weekly meeting that would be larger than they could accommodate, so we were asked to find another place. "No problem said Gene " We moved to the Holiday Inn at Emerson Street and I-95. Soon afterward like six weeksor so, the hotel was sold to an Indian Family (Patel). The food had so much curry in itthat it gave poor Gene Bushor a heart attack. After three or so months we moved again. This time to Patti's Italian Restaurant on Beach Blvd. Guess what? Nine weeks later they closed their doors for good.  Well this group of Men were starting to feel like Gypsy's. So back to the Emerson Inn which had a new restaurant with a Polynesian review. Food was fair but the show was hilarious. After three or four months of this they closed and we had to move again.  Ryan's Steak House was our final meeting place for the remainder of the year.

So now you know how hard it can get to keep this crowd fat and happy.

Your Historian,

Crump Kirby

MEMBERSHIP CORNER

Did everyone have a great 4th of July celebration?  It's times like this when I'm especially grateful for the civic nature of our organization. When I tell people about our club, I'm proud to describe projects that SBMC has been so instrumental in achieving, such as giving new life to the Freedom Fountain, participating in the parade and concert for Veteran's Day, and others.

SBMC membership has so much more to offer than just networking (although we do that very well, too!). I encourage you to get involved, make the most of your membership, and invite your friends and colleagues to join us as we make Jacksonville a better place to work and live.
