PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE |
I hope you are enjoying your Memorial Day weekend. Memorial Day is, and has always been, about honoring Soldiers who have died in service to our nation. We live in a country that loves holidays - from Christmas to Thanksgiving, Mardi Gras and Fourth of July, a reason to celebrate is always a welcome occasion. But, in the midst of the festivities, it is sometimes all too easy to forget the true meaning of holidays.
I am constantly amazed by the wonderful opportunities that the United States, the land of the free and the home of the brave, present to me. Learning about Memorial Day as an immigrant, instead of growing up with it, imparts a unique perspective. I have come to greatly admire the magnitude and meaning behind the sacrifices of the men and women who have died to protect our great country.
As you spend your day today - by the pool or the barbeque, the place of worship or the cemetery - I just ask you to pause. I ask you to pay tribute to those who have served, pause and offer a prayer for those family members left behind, and to be thankful to live in a country where there is a cost for freedom, and men and women willing to pay it. Simply think about these men and women, and what this day is truly all about. I wish you a happy and safe Memorial Day!
Quote of the week: "And I'm proud to be an American, where at least I know I'm free, and I won't forget the men who died, who gave that right to me..." - Lee Greenwood
Have a great week and I look forward to seeing you on Wednesday.
Galina Schott,
2012 SBMC President |

MEMBERSHIP CORNER |
It is a pleasant and rewarding experience to see each of you every week and get a chance to share business success stories and explore opportunities to benefit one-another. But it is only the tip of the iceberg in terms of what our club can do for each of us. Finding a new client (or volunteer) in me or you or any of our fellow members is great but the larger opportunity is to find new clients and connections among our existing clients and friends. That magic happens when we bring guests and introduce them to our club and our fellow members.
If that was not enough incentive to invite along a friend or 2 next week, we are also in the middle of a fun contest between our lady members and our gentlemen members to see who can generate the most new members during this month and next. The winning team will enjoy a $250 happy hour compliments of the SBMC. I look forward to meeting more of your friends and introducing you to more of mine.
Scott Schilbrack,
2012 SBMC Membership Chair |
MEET-A-MEMBER - JUNE 14th |
Back by popular demand: the Freedom Boat Club, Meet-A-Member will be on Thursday, June 14th, at the Julington Creek location; so set the date. Last year, we had live music, food from Metro Diner, beverages, boat rides (and a chance to win a sunset cruise) as part of the fun. If you were there, you know how much fun this is; if you haven't been, you don't want to miss it.
As always, tickets are only $5. Please see Mary Cox, Sandy Myers, or Lisa Almeida at the Wednesday meetings to purchase yours. |
SHARKS SOCIAL - JUNE 16th |
What's better than watching live football in June?...Watching it live, in an air-conditioned building. SBMC is joining with the Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Council to see the current Arena Bowl Champion Jacksonville Sharks Arena Football team play the Philadelphia Soul on Saturday, June 16th. We will be occupying one of the Suites at the Coliseum; cost will be $30 per person, and includes Hamburgers and Hot Dogs, sides and fixin's, and a variety of beverages.
And what's better than watching football, in June, in air-conditioned comfort, in a suite with food and beverages?!...Halloween! You read it right; it's Halloween-In-June night at the game. Dress up in your favorite Halloween outfit...you spent a lot of money on it back in October, now you can amortize it over another wearing. We have a limited number of tickets, so secure your lot with Julie Clements, Michael Gullion, or Angie Tekin, as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. |
SBMC GOLF OUTING - JUNE 22nd |
Our next golf outing is Friday, June 22nd, at Palencia in St. Johns County. As this is an exclusive private course, the cost is $50 plus tax which includes range balls. Shotgun start at 1:00 PM. The golf outings have been consistently selling out this year and only 1 spot left for this event. Please make your reservations with Julie Clements ASAP at [email protected]. Also, if you would like to be added to the master golf list to receive the emails, please send Julie an email.
Julie Clements,

SERGEANT AT ARMS - PATRICK HEATHERINGTON |
In order for us and San Jose Country Club to properly prepare for the SBMC meeting, we ask you to RSVP and let us know if you intend to have lunch. This will ensure that SJCC has proper seating and enough food for our group. RSVP to [email protected].
If you feel called to lead our meeting in the Invocation or the Pledge of Allegiance, please email [email protected]. |
