PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

I am very excited about our 17th Annual Charity Golf Classic  Monday, May 21st on the beautiful greens of the San Jose Country Club.

As many of you know, SBMC Charities Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization founded in 1980 to focus on the enhancement of youth in the Southside of Jacksonville.  Through the Charity Golf Classic we have been empowering our youth through the game of golf.  We are proud of our accomplishments as the SBMC Charities Fund account has recently passed a mark of $200,000.  Thank you to our golf tournament sponsors and players. -- Our success depends on your support.

Every year our tournament gets better and better.  I would like to thank our Charity Golf Classic Founder Crump Kirby, Chairman Jay Cann, Co-Chair Hank Duckworth, and their hard-working committee members - Annie Houghton, Cyndi Nunn, Don Flynn, Mark Jackson, Tim Howe, Jepp Walter, Rick Thompson and Dee Kirby for organizing such an exciting tournament this year.  I truly appreciate the committee's hard work and dedication to the success of one of our major fund-raising events.

Quote of the week: "Golf is like fishing and hunting. What counts is the companionship and fellowship of friends, not what you catch or shoot." - George Archer

Have a great week and I look forward to seeing you on Wednesday.

Galina Schott,

2012 SBMC President

4th Annual Jax Craft and Import Beer Festival

The 2012 Craft and Import Beer Festival promised to be better than last year and it was the best one to date.  Thank you Mike White with Client Focused Media for giving us the opportunity to raise thousands of dollars for our club and congratulations on the successful event!

The most impressive selection of American craft beers and imported beers from around the world were available to sample at the Jax Veterans Memorial Arena last Friday. 4500 attendances had a chance to taste over 300 beers from 45 different breweries. Several local restaurants were participating and serving up great food to pair with the wide selection of beer samples. It was a fun event and live music acts kept all participants entertained all night long...

My BIG THANK YOU to ALL our great BeerFest volunteers!

I would like to express my gratitude to the SBMC BeerFest Leadership team that worked hard to make sure that our fund-raising event was a great success:

Chairman - AJ Richwine

Co-Chair - Harry Peltz

Cheerleader - Angie Tekin

2nd Vice President -- Nancy Bennett

I appreciate your hard work and dedication to our Club!

MEET-A-MEMBER - JUNE 14th

Back by popular demand: the Freedom Boat Club, Meet-A-Member will be on Thursday, June 14th, at the Julington Creek location; so set the date.  Last year, we had live music, food from Metro Diner, beverages, boat rides (and a chance to win a sunset cruise) as part of the fun.  If you were there, you know how much fun this is; if you haven't been, you don't want to miss it.

As always, tickets are only $5, and will be on sale soon; see Mary Cox, Sandy Myers, or Lisa Almeida at the Wednesday meetings.

SHARKS SOCIAL - JUNE 16th

What's better than watching live football in June?...Watching it live, in an air-conditioned building.  SBMC is joining with the Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Council to see the current Arena Bowl Champion Jacksonville Sharks Arena Football team play the Philadelphia Soul on Saturday, June 16th.  We will be occupying one of the Suites at the Coliseum; cost will be $30 per person, and includes Hamburgers and Hot Dogs, sides and fixin's, and a variety of beverages.

And what's better than watching football, in June, in air-conditioned comfort, in a suite with food and beverages?!...Halloween!  You read it right; it's Halloween-In-June night at the game.  Dress up in your favorite Halloween outfit...you spent a lot of money on it back in October, now you can amortize it over another wearing.  We have a limited number of tickets, so secure your lot with Julie Clements, Michael Gullion, or Angie Tekin, as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

SBMC GOLF OUTING - JUNE 22nd

Our next golf outing is Friday, June 22nd, at Palencia in St. Johns County.  As this is an exclusive private course, the cost is $50 plus tax which includes range balls.  Shotgun start at 1:00 PM.  The golf outings have been consistently selling out this year, so make your reservations with Julie Clement at [email protected] - only 4 spots left.  Also, if you would like to be added to the master golf list to receive the emails, please send Julie an email.

Julie Clements,

2012 Golf Outing Chair

SERGEANT AT ARMS - PATRICK HEATHERINGTON

In order for us and San Jose Country Club to properly prepare for the SBMC meeting, we ask you to RSVP and let us know if you intend to have lunch.  This will ensure that SJCC has proper seating and enough food for our group.  RSVP to [email protected].

If you feel called to lead our meeting in the Invocation or the Pledge of Allegiance, please email [email protected].
