PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

The Southside Business Men's Club takes pride in volunteering at community events, so my message this week is about volunteering.  The month of May is a very busy but very rewarding month for our club. Three major fundraising events we've been preparing for are just around the corner:

  • The Players Championship, May 7-13th
  • Jacksonville Beer Festival, May 18th
  • YAP Charity Golf Classic, May 21st

Every spring we raise funds for our club and our club's charities. Because of the time constraints, I find this task both exciting and challenging and today, I'd like to express my gratitude to all our volunteers for their support and participation. To some of our members who have not had a chance to sign up for one of our events yet, I encourage you to do so.  It is not too late, it would take a few hours of your time but it would be so rewarding.  I promise you that you will have a great time and feel good about the end-results. Also, what a great opportunity to invite your friends and co-workers to introduce them to our club and make a difference in our community!

As volunteers, we're all a part of important and wonderful work.  When I think about what we do and how many lives we touch, it makes me very proud to be a part of such an incredible group of people. I appreciate you and I thank you for everything you do for our great organization.

Quote of the week: "Volunteering can be an exciting, growing, enjoyable experience. It is truly gratifying to serve a cause, practice one's ideals, work with people, solve problems, see benefits, and know one had a hand in them." ~ Harriet Naylor

Have a great week and I look forward to seeing you Wednesday.

Galina Schott,

2012 SBMC President

MEMBERSHIP CORNER

We have another fun contest to provide a bit of motivation to remind everyone to invite your friends and associates to come out to a meeting and see what the SBMC is all about. Julie Wesling, my co-chair of Membership, and I will be squaring off in a Ladies versus Gentlemen competition to see who can bring in the most new members during the months of May and June.

The competition begins this Wednesday, May 2nd. The winning team will be rewarded with a $250 happy hour at a local restaurant. Our Gentlemen club members are on Team Scott and our Lady club members are on Team Julie. Please join us for a friendly competition!

JACKSONVILLE BEERFEST - MAY 18th 6pm-10pm

Beer Festival is a civic event created for the benefit of Southside Business Men's Club and recently added the Chamber of Commerce. The founder of this event is our SBMC member Mike White, the President of Client Focused Media.  This is a huge logistical accomplishment which heavily relies upon our SBMC labor volunteers to fulfill the needs to serve the 4500 to 5000 guest attendees. The labor assignments are divided into these following work groups which consists of 50 volunteers:

  1. Pre-party Setup crew (assist Vendors' display set ups and supplies).
  2. Security check in Crew (I.D. Verification)
  3. Glassware setup and hand-out Crew (4500 5oz glasses)
  4. Silent auction table attendants Crew (also solicit for table gift donations)
  5. Random floor assignment Crew (assisting vendors various tasks)
  6. Signup sheets for each of the crews will be available at the meetings.  Also consider asking SBMC guests if they would like to experience the SBMC event, as well.  Please contact AJ Richwine alias (AJ PoorBeer) at 904-610-5599. http://www.beerfestjax.com
