MEET-A-MEMBER-Duckworth Construction Company

Our big THANKS to Hank Duckworth and Mark Jackson with Duckworth Construction Company for hosting a wonderful Meet-A-Member event last Thursday.  As always, we had a great time, enjoyed fellowship, delicious food and beverages. -- The drink of the SBMC Golf Tournament, Drunken Pirates, was served to further promote our upcoming event along with Ahi tuna, sushi, pizza, and more...

We also learned more about Duckworth Construction Co -- they specialize in Tenant Improvements, Commercial Property Maintenance, Specialty and Emergency projects.  We should keep them in mind when we hear of any commercial renovation projects coming up - they're our interior Commercial Specialists:  "Exceeding Customer Expectations since 1988".

SBMC TEACHER FOR A DAY

Thank you to all the volunteers who contributed their time and talents to make the SBMC Teacher for a Day a huge success: Mike Aselton, Hank Duckworth, Mark Jackson, Nancy Bennett, Jon Hall, Heather Gaston, Toni Higgs, Dawn Sutherland, Ron MacNeil, Matt Romano, Josh Haskell, Eric Ramshaw, and Jeff Spadafora.  Special thanks to SBMC VP Annie Houghton for her role in making this event a reality.

Recipe for Student Success by Rita:

Ingredients:

14 members of the Southside Business Men's Club;

288 seventh grade students.

Mix:

Junior Achievement Economics for Success (lessons in: budgeting, credit, insurance, career choices, and identity theft);

Volunteers' personal stories.

Result:

Students acquire valuable life skills;

Students are introduced to role models from multiple professions;

Volunteers gain insights into the accomplishments and challenges facing the students.

With this one day each year, the volunteers from the Southside Business Men's Club touch the lives of an entire grade level of middle school students. We should all take pride that we are able to impact these young lives in such a practical way.

Rita Story,

Program Director, Junior Achievement of North Florida

MEMBERSHIP CORNER

Membership in the SBMC is growing steadily and it is an exciting time to be associated with such a prominent club. Membership does have its privileges and bringing in new members is its own reward.

We have another fun contest to provide that little extra bit of motivation to remind everyone to invite your friends and associates to come out to a meeting and see what we are all about. Julie Wesling, my co-chair of Membership, and I will be squaring off in a Ladies versus Gentlemen competition to see who can bring in the most new members during the months of May and June. The winning team will be rewarded with a $250 happy hour at a local restaurant. Our Gentlemen club members are on Team Scott and our Lady club members are on Team Julie. We will review the details at this Wednesdays meeting and begin the competition the following Wednesday, May 2nd. I look forward to a spirited contest and meeting many of your friends and acquaintances.

JACKSONVILLE BEERFEST - MAY 18th 6pm-10pm

All members who have not experienced the Beer Festival, this is one of our major fundraisers for the SBMC year. Beer Festival is a civic event created for the benefit of Southside Business Men's Club and recently added the Chamber of Commerce. The founder of this event is our SBMC member Mike White, the President of Client Focused Media.  This is a huge logistical accomplishment which heavily relies upon our SBMC labor volunteers to fulfill the needs to serve the 4500 to 5000 guest attendees. The labor assignments are divided into these following work groups which consists of 50 volunteers:

  1. Pre-party Setup crew (assist Vendors' display set ups and supplies).
  2. Security check in Crew (I.D. Verification)
  3. Glassware setup and hand-out Crew (4500 5oz glasses)
  4. Silent auction table attendants Crew (also solicit for table gift donations)
  5. Random floor assignment Crew (assisting vendors various tasks)
  6. Signup sheets for each of the crews will be available at the meetings.  Also consider asking SBMC guests if they would like to experience the SBMC event, as well.  Please contact AJ Richwine alias (AJ PoorBeer) at 904-610-5599. http://www.beerfestjax.com
