 PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Membership is the heart of our organization. Every week during our meetings, I look around the room and I'm overwhelmed with joy and pride.

YOU bring a lot of joy and positive energy to me when I see you welcoming our visitors, passing around your business cards, thanking members for doing business with you, and laughing at Gene's and John's jokes during our auction time.

YOU make me proud when you are asked to serve our community, raise money for the Club's charity, and help a friend in need... Every week you tell me that I look good behind the podium, but I have to tell you - YOU all look great to me!  Thank you for your support and for everything you do for our organization!

Our Club has a lot to offer our members - networking opportunities, community involvement and, of course, a lot of fun. To me, the sports are a lot of fun. As you know, the SBMC has been proudly supporting our local sports teams. In the past few years we've purchased two season tickets for each of our football teams -- the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Jacksonville Sharks. We have done the same this year and the highly anticipated Sharks season has arrived.

Arena Bowl XXIV Champion Jacksonville Sharks opened their 2012 regular season with a commanding win, 52-28 on the road, as the team traveled to face the Kansas City Command on Friday, March 16th. The Champs will be playing their first 2012 regular season game vs Georgia Force at home, Jacksonville Veteran's Memorial Arena, this Saturday, March 24th at 7pm. The theme for the game is the Championship Pride Night. We will be auctioning two tickets at our meetings before each home game. The Sharks games are always a lot of fun and I have to tell you that our seats this year are great - Section 115, Row Q, seats 15 and 16. Please check them out and learn more about the Sharks schedule by visiting their website http://jaxsharks.com.  Have a wonderful week and I look forward to seeing you on Wednesday.

Galina Schott,

2012 SBMC President

2012 LEADERSHIP TEAM - ANNIE HOUGHTON

Some things you might not know about our 3rd Vice President, Annie Houghton:

I am a Jacksonville native born of immigrant parents (Dad was British Royal Navy; Mom is from the Midwest, which might as well be another country...)

I attended Duval County Public Schools, and I turned out okay. Actually, far better than my friends whose parents shelled out thousands of dollars on private schools.

I went to college at UNF, better known as the University of No Future, or U Never Finish.

I started my banking career 10 years ago with AmSouth Bank, survived my first banking merger in 2007, then after the worst was over I promptly quit for the greener pastures of Fidelity Bank.

I have been with Fidelity for going on 5 years, and just to clarify: No, we are not related to Fidelity Investments, Fidelity National Financial, or Fidelity Investment Services. We are a $2 billion bank based in Georgia, and we are really happy to be expanding in the Jacksonville market.

In 2011 I was named one of the BUZZ Magazine's "Top 30 Under 30," much to the annoyance of my peers who only then learned that I was so much younger than they.

I am actually engaged to the love of my life, Tim Howe, but we have been too busy volunteering for SBMC to get married.

Along with a friend, I write a blog that explores the culinary scene of Jacksonville, one delicious chicken wing at a time. You can follow us by going to our website www.jaxwingquest.com, (Shameless plug) by friending "Jax Wingquest" on facebook, or by reading our monthly column in the BUZZ Magazine. (Another Shameless plug .)

SPRING YOUTH ACHIEVER PROGRAM

Thank you so much to all of our sponsors and volunteers who came together to make the Beauclerc Elementary School Youth Achiever Program a success! We served 350 hot dog and hamburger dinners, while the kids were able to enjoy their spring carnival. More details coming soon.

MEMBERSHIP CORNER

Thanks to everyone who continues to bring in your guests.  Our attendance at the meetings has been excellent.  If you haven't thought of inviting a guest, give it a try.  You always run into people looking for more networking opportunities.

If you were not aware, we are giving away a $150 prize at the end of March to the member who sponsors the most new members in the first quarter.  The leader in that contest at this point is Hank Duckworth.  And if you did not know, he won the $100 prize at the end of February for bringing in the most guests. Good job, Hank!  See how that works? If you bring a guest, you know they will love our organization, and will likely join.

To all our new members, welcome aboard!  Please make sure to attend our New Member Orientation this Wednesday, March 21st, at 11am. After the orientation, you will be inducted to the club during our regular meeting.  If you are unable to attend, please make a note that our next Orientation will be on April 18th, the 3rd Wednesday of the month.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at [email protected]  or our Membership Co-Chair Julie Wesling at [email protected].

THE PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP - MAY 7th - 13th

TPC is May 7th to May 13th and Volunteer Sign Up is now in progress.  The SBMC provides volunteers to work the TPC food and beverage tent adjacent to the 18th landing spot. Our team members run cash registers, prepare and serve food and beverages throughout the week. This is an annual fundraising event for the Club and is always a fun way to get to know your fellow members. We have a need for volunteers every day. But of course the good times go first so don't delay.

A drawing for $100 CASH (2 winners) will be held the Wednesday following the tournament. Your name will be entered into the drawing once for every shift you work.

***Anyone working SUNDAY will have their name entered 2 TIMES***

You don't need to be a member to participate in this fun event. Recruit your family, employees, friends, etc. You will get a day pass to the event so you can enjoy the TPC when you aren't working your shift.

There will be a sign up notebook passed around all SBMC lunch meetings from now until the event. Please go on line to sign-up as a volunteer at http://www.southsidebusinessmensclub.com or contact the TPC Chairman, Steve De Sorbo at [email protected], call 281-0511 ext 314 to let him know what days you are interested in signing up for.
