PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

I'm happy to report that our immediate Past President Ken Dean has been elected as 2012 SBMC Chairman of the Board.  Please join me in congratulating Ken on his new role with our great Club.  I personally appreciate Ken's support and friendship and I look forward to working with him this year.

Please note that our next TWO meetings in February, on February 1st and the 8th, will take place at University Club.  Our regular meetings will reconvene at San Jose Country Club the following week on February 15th.

2012 has just begun but I already feel a lot of excitement in our Club this year.  I want YOU to know that thanks to YOU, there is a buzz in town that SBMC is the place to be on Wednesdays.  Please keep buzzing...

Let me introduce you to our new members and thank their sponsors for supporting our Club's growth:

Please welcome our new members to the Club and invite them to join one of our committees.  I encourage all of you to get involved in Club's activities.  Whether you volunteer at The Players Championship, our own YAP, or participate in our Charity Golf Tournament, it all helps the Club achieve its goals...  But most importantly, you network and have fun with a dynamic group of professionals who are committed to improving the quality of life in Jacksonville.

Have a great week and I look forward to seeing you and your guests at our meeting on Wednesday.

MEMBERSHIP CORNER

As a recent member of Southside Business Men's Club, I am someone who, like you, wears many hats.  Nonetheless, I am pleased to report that I've never missed a single meeting since joining the Club.   It is clear from speaking with so many of you here that Wednesdays with SBMC is a regular part of your weekly plan as well.

But, please keep in mind that even though 2012 is our 80th anniversary year, there are still so many people who don't know we exist, and who would relish the chance to network and tap into our treasure trove of excellence in the Jacksonville business community, right here, right now!

So, please speak to people you do business with and your friends -- invite them to come as a guest.  You know that most visitors to our Club tend to stay and ultimately enjoy their SBMC Membership as much as we do.  See you Wednesday at SBMC.

2012 Membership Chair

MEET-A-MEMBER - FEBRUARY 2ND

SBMC is having the first of seven exciting, unique Meet-A-Member events this year. Carter Funk of Deluxe Cleaners is sponsoring the event on  February 2nd at his main facility at 6005 Powers Avenue, Jacksonville, FL 32217.  This is a great opportunity to see how the entire laundering/dry-cleaning operation is done. Mark this date on your calendar and join us on February 2nd at 5:30 p.m.

Please see Sandy Myers, Mary Cox, or Amy Varela to purchase your $5 ticket.

TALLAHASSEE TRIP - FEBRUARY 28TH

February 28 is the date of our annual Tallahassee Trip. As with everything we do in the Club, this will be a very exciting and fun day.  You will have the opportunity to meet your legislators and get a behind-the-scenes view of our State Capital and other buildings and offices.

We have chartered a very comfortable motor coach for the trip (with a bathroom).  The price of this great trip is only $75 - which includes transportation, snacks and refreshments during the trip and lunch.

Bus seats are LIMITED, so don't miss out on this unique opportunity to visit the State Capital with your fellow SBMC members.  For details and to make your reservations, please contact Harry Peltz at 742-6644 or e-mail at [email protected]

DAYTONA INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY - FEB. 2012

We have a couple of opportunities for a social event at the Daytona 500 in February 2012. Please call Gene Maszy at 993-1105 or email at [email protected] if either of these offers interests you:

1)  Daytona Select - $315 per person. This awesome deal includes seats in the Sprint Tower, i.e. Daytona International Speedway Suites. All food and beverage are included and you will be hobnobbing with movie stars, music stars and the leaders of some of the biggest corporations in the world.

2)  Dave and Buster's Daytona 500 Raceway - $175 per person. This includes transportation to and from the race, something a lot of members have asked me for on past Daytona trips. Details at the following link - http://dandbjax.ticketleap.com/daytona500/
