HOLLI'S CORNER
It's more evident than ever that green building practices have become a priority for owners, architects and engineers - as well as contractors. Building regulation is evolving, as is the measuring stick for designating a building as environmentally friendly. We've all heard of LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). It is a benchmarking system for buildings to demonstrate sustainability and a dedication to reducing a structure's environmental impact on an area.
It has helped many business owners showcase their environmental stewardship to a community, and to their shareholders, however it can be cumbersome to obtain LEED certification. Now there is a nationally accepted alternative to LEED that is quickly being adopted by federal and private entities, Green Globes.
Green Globes is a web-based program for green building guidance and certification that includes an onsite assessment by a third party. Backed by excellent customer support, Green Globes offers a streamlined and affordable alternative to LEED as a way to advance the overall environmental performance and sustainability of commercial buildings.
Learn more about this growing program which has been endorsed by the GSA, federal entities such as the Department of Veterans Affairs, and is quickly being adopted in many states, including Tennessee. |
