GREAT WOMEN IN HISTORY
March harkens the beginning of Spring, and it is National Women's History Month. Highlighted below is the significance of the movement, shared with us from NAWBO (National Association of Women Business Owners). Holli, with Summerall Electric is a local NAWBO member.
NAWBOŽ Makes Women's History
March is National Women's History Month-as designated by Joint Resolutions of the House and Senate and Proclamations by six U.S. Presidents-and NAWBOŽ celebrates the amazing achievements of women over the years, including those of our organization. NAWBOŽ has been an integral part of women's history for more than 36 years now, from past NAWBOŽ National presidents who have been inducted into the Women's Hall of Fame for their efforts to the key role our organization played in the passage of H.R. 5050 legislation that had an enormous positive effect on women's entrepreneurship in the United States. Discover these achievements and many more on NAWBOŽ's historical timeline.
Meanwhile, Women's Education-Women's Empowerment is the theme for National Women's History Month 2012.
According to the National Women's History Project-which coordinates observances of National Women's History Month throughout the country each year-although women now outnumber men in American colleges nationwide, this reversal of the gender gap is a very recent phenomenon. The fight to learn was a valiant struggle waged by many tenacious women-across years and across cultures.
As such, this National Women's History Month recognizes six outstanding women whose work and lives testify to the theme. They are:
* Emma Hart Willard, Women Higher Education Pioneer
* Charlotte Forten Grimke, Freedman Bureau Educator
* Annie Sullivan, Disability Education Architect
* Gracia Molina Enriquez de Pick, Feminist Educational Reformer
* Okolo Rashid, Community Development Activist and Historical Preservation Advocate
* Brenda Flyswithhawks, American Indian Advocate and Educator
