March 2011

Chairman's Message
Kirt SpeaksWhat a month we've had!! Lots of cold weather, ice, time off, school closings are just a few things that we encountered. For those of you who own a business, the pinch may have been felt or depending on the business you have, it may have helped your business. But this month, we are back to our normal routines-Chamber Night Out, Business on the Hill, Networking events are just a few things that will bring your business opportunities to go to the next level.

Have you read the Speed of Trust by Steven M.R. Covey? I have just started listening to it on audio book and it's a great reminder of how much trust plays into everything we do. Lack of trust can cost us time, money and resources. I would highly recommend this book for your personal life and to help analyze your business and workplace activities. The Chamber is also privileged to welcome Mr Covey on March 23rd. Reservations can be made in advance-and I highly recommend that because seating is limited!! I have attached the link for you to get all the details on his visit to Cedar Hill. Take your staff, your coworkers, your college students or anyone you want to see move to a new level. They will not be disappointed!

Have a great month!

Business Helping Education

The CHISD Board of Trustees is forming a Community Advisory Committee to take an independent look at the need for two elections in addressing the operating budget revenue shortage and the district's current facilities conditions. The Board seeks a recommended course of action for its consideration. The Board and Superintendent believe the district is at a critical crossroads and they do not want to make difficult decisions that reach so deeply into the community without its participation. Ultimately, it is the Board's goal, and the Superintendent, to continue serving this community with the very best possible educational experiences and learning environments.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, the district is asking to help them achieve these goals. Please accept this invitation to serve on the Community Advisory Committee. The committee will begin meeting in March with the goal of developing a recommendation for the Board of Trustees in June. Meetings will be held weekly starting in March and ending in May.

Please contact Diane Case at (972) 291-1581 x4085 or by email at diane.case@chisd.net and let her know if you are willing to serve on this important committee and believe you can commit to attending the scheduled meetings.

Sincerely,

Horace Williams, Superintendent

Nova Gymnastics began advertizing in Southwest Now Magazine in January 2011. Response has been amazing; much better than anticipated. Our success relies on student enrollment and we began receiving calls and new student enrollments the very first day the January edition was delivered to local residences. New January enrollments greatly exceeded our projections, with many new families coming to us as a direct result of our advertisement in Southwest Now Magazine.
