Don't Forget the Pie!
Please Join Us for the Church Picnic Next Sunday |
Please join us for our annual church picnic next Sunday, May 6, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. We'll gather at the Rotary Shelter in Steele Creek Park to enjoy good food and fellowship in a beautiful setting.
But wait! There's more! In addition to a cakewalk, a tug-of-war, and other games, we will have a contest for the best homemade pie. Anyone interested in entering or judging the pie contest should email Betsy Turnbull at gbturnbull@btes.tv.
FPC will provide meat and beverages, and supper will be served at 5:30. Please bring a side dish with you: last name A-H: bring a salad; last name I-P: bring a side; last name Q-Z: bring a dessert.
Our picnics are always great fun, and we hope to see you there! |

Spring Cleaning Day Is Upon Us |
The Deacons' Household Task Team is sponsoring a Spring Cleaning Day this Saturday, April 28. We are sending out teams from the church to members' houses to help with those tasks that need doing this time of year--clearing out clutter, changing light bulbs and smoke detector batteries, doing yard work, and making minor repairs.
If you are interested in receiving a visit on Spring Cleaning Day, please call the church office or return a request form to the office.
Everyone who wants to join in a morning of service and fellowship can volunteer. Call the church office or sign up during worship this Sunday. Or just email Gordon Turnbull at gturnbull@fpcbristol.org. Put "Spring Cleaning" in the subject heading, and we will put you on the team! |

Jump In! It's a Summer of Fellowship |
Join us this summer for fun and Bible study as we enjoy FISH, "fellowship in someone's home." Middle School FISH will meet on Tuesday nights, and High School FISH will meet on Thursday nights, each from 7:00 to 9:00, beginning Tuesday, May 29.
We are looking for families to host these gatherings throughout the summer. Hosts will provide a place to meet, a snack, and a fun activity, such as swimming, games, or a craft. A youth advisor will lead the Bible study.
If you would like to serve as a host, please contact Linda Welch (latwelch@aol.com) or Dave Welch (dwelch@fpcbristol.org) to reserve your night. - Katie Arnold, Director of Youth Ministries |
Church Youth Go Hungry This Weekend |
More than 30 youth of our church will participate in World Vision's 30-Hour Famine this weekend, April 28-29. They will go 30 hours without food while raising funds for projects in Ethiopia that will strengthen our connection to that region of the world.
According to World Vision, 925 million people worldwide are hungry. Every day, as many as 11,000 children under the age of five die from hunger-related causes. That's one child every eight seconds. To save as many lives as possible, hundreds of thousands of compassionate students every year take on the challenge of the 30-Hour Famine. They go without food for 30 hours. They learn what it takes to overcome hunger. And they raise funds to help feed hungry children and families around the world. They make a difference.
Every $30 our young people raise can help feed and care for a child for a month. And because the Famine is powered by World Vision, our youth are not only feeding children for today but also helping them and their families overcome poverty for a lifetime. |

Every year we look forward to honoring the achievements of the new graduates among us. Please call the church office if you or a member of your family will be graduating from high school, college, or any other educational or training program this spring. We need the following information for our recognition efforts: student name, current (not future) school or program, graduation date, degree earned, and field. Thank you for your help!

Mowing Schedule through May 12 |

The cheetah is the only large cat we know of that runs faster than our new Tiger. The following mowers are scheduled to whip around the church lawn in the next few weeks:
April 25-28: Karen White-Smith & Eric Cline
May 2-5: Aaron Brooks & Stuart Parker
May 9-12: Jon McClain/Matt Richardson
For your chance to ride the Tiger, contact Randy Cook at npolecook@aol.com or 423-956-1541. |
From Steve & Vicki Fey Music Notes | |
Music Participants for April 29: King College Symphonic Choir, Jubilate Youth Choir. We are pleased to welcome the King College Symphonic Choir as they make their annual visit to sing during our 11:00 service. The Jubilate Youth Choir will sing for both services, performing I Will Joyfully Sing in the Morning as an appropriate beginning to our 11:00 worship.
 | | The Paramount Chamber Players |
Programs of Note: The Paramount Chamber Players close out the season with three programs featuring the music of Mozart. This Friday, April 27, 7:30 p.m., the program will take place at First Presbyterian Church, Kingsport. Saturday's program, which includes the gala event, will also be presented at 7:30 p.m. in the Paramount Center for the Arts. Featured will be pianist Katherine Benson, one of last year's Bristol Music Club scholarship winners and winner of the Paramount Players award, given by the scholarship audition judges. Saturday's program will take place at Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church at 3:00 p.m. as part of the Spencer-Miller concert series.
Arts Series: The Russian vocal ensemble LYRA returns to our sanctuary Sunday, May 20, 3:00 p.m. LYRA is actually a larger vocal ensemble of 25 to 30 singers but sends out small groups to tour. One of the things we remember from their previous visit was the large sound from so few people! They will sing sacred literature from the Russian choral tradition as well as folk songs from various regions of Russia. Suggested ticket donation is $10 adults/$5 students. |
