Gifts Welcomed at Sharing Christ Worship Center |
A recent contact from Tom and Barbara Knoll has apprised us of a need at Sharing Christ Worship Center, the downtown mission where we regularly help to serve the Saturday evening meal.
Roof replacement and other necessary repairs to the building at the corner of Sixth and State streets has created a need for $11,000 in support. Those who would like to offer financial support for this cause are invited to contact the Knolls at P.O. Box 34887, Bristol, TN 37625, or 423-968-7374.
Tom Knoll grew up in First Presbyterian Church, the son of the late Tom and Edith Knoll. Sharing Christ has offered a ministry of food and worship to the poor in Bristol for more than 20 years. Our Session commends this cause for your prayerful consideration. |

Music Notes |
Music Participants: June 12, 19, 26: Sanctuary Choir. While the choir takes a vacation from music leadership during the month of July, various soloists will participate in worship.
Sunday's Music: The definition of canticle is a "biblical song other than the psalms." The choir anthem, "Canticle for Pentecost," is a musical setting of several scriptural passages associated with the celebration of Pentecost. Erik Routley, probably the most important hymn scholar of the twentieth century, created this musical setting. An English clergyman, musician, and professor, he moved to the United States late in life and taught at Westminster Choir College. His writings on hymnody remain the standard by which all others are judged. He wrote several fine hymn texts and tunes, two of which are in our hymnal. This setting is similar to the responsive psalms we often sing, with a recurring refrain that is interspersed between varying verses. The choir will continue singing "Hallelujah, We Sing Your Praises" as the introit this Sunday, inviting the congregation to join on the refrain.
Montreat: Nine youth, two Feys, two parent chefs (the Osbornes), two mom helpers (Lorri Looney and Sherry Ratliff), and young adult Andy Cumbow will travel to Montreat after church on June 19 to attend week 1 of the Montreat Worship & Music Conference sponsored by the Presbyterian Association of Musicians, staying in a house on Appalachian Way. In the children's choir (rising fourth through sixth graders) will be Daniel Osborne, Ginny Osborne, Rosa Poteat, and Madison Ratliff. In the middlers choir (rising seventh through ninth graders) will be Alison Looney, Blake Looney, Maleah Newton, Annie Osborne, and Maria Poteat. In addition to singing with 100 other kids their ages, this group will ring bells; attend worship, Bible Study and Fun and Games; ride paddle boats; go rock hopping; and eat ice cream at the Huckleberry at least once a day! Conference preacher this year is Tom Troeger, a well-known and well-respected preacher, author, and hymn text writer. It would be worth it for members of our congregation to get together and drive down one day to hear this fine preacher, either week 1 (see date above) or week 2 (beginning June 26). Worship is at 11:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, in Anderson Auditorium. ~ Vicki & Steve Fey |
