The mission of the Hazmat Fusion Center is to enhance hazmat responder safety and improve decision-making for responses to hazmat incidents. This project is a collaborative effort of the U.S. Department of Transportation's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) and the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC).

Check out the new Hazmat History section of the website. This section gives responders an opportunity to learn from the past and apply those lessons learned to future incidents for a more successful outcome. We are currently featuring a case study on the Miamisburg, Ohio train derailment. A different incident will be highlighted each month and an archive of important historical incidents will be available.
A "News" section on the Portal has been recently created and is updated weekly. This section contains articles with the latest hazmat related news. Also now available on the Portal: DOT Chart 14, information on RMEs on Tanker Railcars, and additional Chemical Assisted Suicide information.
The Hazmat Fusion Center has over 1,000 users with Members' Only access and 65 hazmat teams registered to use the Incident Reporting System. Over 260 hazmat incidents have been reported to the Fusion Center. Are you a member of the Portal and/or the Incident Reporting System? If not, join now.
If you have information that you think would be valuable to hazmat responders nationwide, please send it to us, and we will consider making it available on the Portal. |

RISTs are currently undergoing a restructure in order to uphold the Hazmat Fusion Center mission in a more efficient manner. Upon completion, Western and Southwest regional teams will mirror teams in the Central, Eastern and Southern regions with two leaders and six members. RISTs continue to seek out and conduct background research on potential surveys. If your department or team is interested in having a survey conducted of a recent hazmat incident which produced significant lessons learned and/or prompted a change in your operating procedures, contact Amber Wells (awells@iafc.org or 703-880-5121).
Check out the latest RIST reports on the Portal. Executive summaries are available on the Public site (no username or password required). Registered members can access full reports as well as executive summaries on the Members Only site. |
