The mission of the Hazmat Fusion Center is to enhance hazmat responder safety and improve decision-making for responses to hazmat incidents. This project is a collaborative effort of the U.S. Department of Transportation's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) and the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC).

Greetings!
It's hard to believe that it has only been just over a month, but the Hazmat Fusion Center staff is starting to settle in their new home. The process seems to be a bit slow sometimes (no pictures on the walls yet) but that's a reflection of the amount of work that has to be done every day to keep things moving at your Hazmat Fusion Center. We welcome the opportunity to show you around if you happen to be in the Northern Virginia area. |

Preparations are underway for a number of outreach efforts this late summer and fall. We plan on being at the Massachusetts Association of Hazardous Materials Technicians 19th Annual Training Conference in mid September. Please contact Hazmat Fusion Center Program Manager Tom Wells at twells@iafc.org if you would like to schedule a session or find out about how the Hazmat Fusion Center might be able to support your educational session/seminar/conference.
While Massachusetts is mentioned, we are still trying to locate all the state hazmat associations that are focused on emergency responders so the Fusion Center can add them to the resource list and link and network with them. We know about the Florida Association of Hazmat Responders, the Nebraska Hazardous Materials Association, the North Carolina Association of Hazardous Materials First Responders, the Pennsylvania Association of Hazardous Materials Technicians, the Virginia Association of Hazardous Materials Response Specialists, and the Wisconsin Association of Hazardous Materials Responders. If you know about other statewide hazmat associations, please let Tom Wells know who they are and who we might be able to contact. Your help is appreciated.

The registration for the Web portal and Incident Reporting System will begin at the end of summer with the nationwide release planned for fall this year. Beta usage of the Web portal continues with eight jurisdictions conducting data entry into the Hazmat Fusion Center Incident Reporting System and more waiting in the wings. If your organization is interested in helping build and improve the Hazmat Fusion Center Incident Reporting System, please contact Data Analyst Elena Slavinsky at eslavinsky@iafc.org or Data Program Manager Kelly Wolfe at kwolfe@iafc.org. |
The Regional Incident Survey Team effort continues to move forward with additional survey summaries and reports being posted on the Hazmat Fusion Center website. The RIST developed Carbon Monoxide training package was completed and is available on the website. A Hydrochloric Acid training package is being developed. Remember, if you would like RIST to conduct a survey, please visit the Hazmat Fusion Center web site for information at www.hazmatfc.com or contact RIST Coordinator Amber Wells at awells@iafc.org.
