President's Message
|
 | | Cheryl D'Mello |
Dear friends:
When I meet young people studying journalism in college these days, I must admit I worry about what kind of "jobs" will be waiting for them out there. But listening to the news on NPR or opening the daily papers I wonder, how can the world survive without journalists? Who will bring us the news?
People continue to be hungry for news - whether it is on paper, on the air, or on the web. Journalists will always be needed to provide news when people want it, where they want it, and how they want it.
This week I leave for Fort Lauderdale to attend the 2012 Excellence in Journalism Conference. It is poised to be the journalism event of the year with more than 1,000 top news professionals from broadcast, print and digital newsrooms around the country. I will be attending professional development sessions, learning about changes in the industry and networking. I will be learning how to leverage digital technology and improve my use of social media. Besides, for the first time ever, I will get a chance to walk on the beaches in Florida and tour the Everglades!
I will be back next Sunday to share my learning experiences. I look forward to bringing back to Cleveland the latest in the field of journalism from the Society of Professional Journalists!
Sincerely,
Cheryl D'Mello
