President's Message
Come meet the winners of the 2012
Best of Ohio Journalism Awards!

Cheryl D'Mello
Cheryl D'Mello

Dear friends:

We invite you to join us on Sunday, Sept. 30, starting at noon, as we gather to honor Ohio's journalists for their work during 2011. The 2012 Best of Ohio Journalism Awards will be held at the Great American Ballpark, home of the National League's Cincinnati Reds.

On Aug. 29, the Cincinnati, Cleveland and Columbus Pro Chapters of the Society of Professional Journalists announced the winners of the competition in the five categories: Broadcast, College, Online, Print, and Trade media. Each media category has up to 34 sub-categories which are difficult to elaborate on here. At the event, you will get to personally meet the winners and the journalists behind the print, broadcast and online stories that you have enjoyed reading and hearing.

For a complete list of winners, click the following link.

Our thanks to Cleveland Past President Steve FitzGerald at Nonprofit Newswire for sponsoring, editing, hosting and managing the website.

SPJ always strives to add some fun to these events. Past award events have included a riverboat trip on the Ohio River, visits to aquariums, museums, stadiums and in Cleveland, to the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame.

This year, after the buffet banquet and the awards ceremony, guided tours of the ballpark will be offered. The ballpark is located in downtown Cincinnati along the city's newly redeveloped riverfront. You will get an up close look at a local landmark during a baseball season when the Reds could make the World Series!

The organizers have worked hard to keep the costs down. General admission tickets include lunch, seating for the awards, and the ballpark tour. (For those journalists in transition - between jobs - we are offering a discount of $10 off the full ticket price.) For family members who will be in Cincinnati who may just want the ballpark tour at 2 p.m., it will be an additional $10 per person.

To register and for more details about ticket options, click here.

We do hope to see you in Cinci!

Sincerely,

Cheryl D'Mello
