Cleveland Journalism Nostalgia Night
Come on out next Tuesday evening, June 20, and meet other members and friends of SPJ Cleveland as we remember the good and bad old days. Dress appr opriately and bring your best anecdotes, plus any retro items you might have from earlier times. We have an interesting collection we'll be sharing with you, but we'd love to see what others have saved from the days of spikes (Does anyone have one of those? Please bring it!), green eyeshades, manual typewriters and -30- at the end of every story. The stuff needn't be all that old -- things become obsolete pretty fast in this online era. Bring them along and share the stories that go with them.
At the start of the meeting, we'll ask members to vote for the new board that will represent our chapter for the coming year. That won't take long, since we have already sent the nominations in our weekly newsletter, Writer's Week.
Once that business is out of the way, you'll have a chance to meet and greet our new board, eat munchies, get a drink at the cash bar and reminisce about the days when journalists were ... well, you tell us!
Where & When:Johnny's Little Bar614 Frankfort Ave.Cleveland OH 44113 July 206-9 p.m. There will be a $5 charge to help defray expenses.
If you're planning to come, please send an e-mail to our Secretary-Treasurer, Tom Moore, so we'll know how much food to get.

The Society of Professional Journalists is a national organization with chapters in cities and towns across the country. It provides many services and leadership opportunities for members, and for journalists everywhere. Its national website is a repository of resources for working journalists and those looking for jobs in the field. Locally, the city's professional and student chapters run programs almost every month that raise issues of ethics, access to information, diversity and the state of the industry, as well as training workshops where student journalists, newcomers to the field and veteran professionals can sit side by side, learning the latest techniques. Last but not least, we offer occasional social gatherings such as this, where journalists can meet and enjoy one another's company in a non-competitive environment. You don't have to join SPJ to attend these events. We welcome everyone.
