Today let's head to the lab and experiment a bit with product. Let's build one from scratch, and combine some of the best features of all the products on the market. Ready? Here's my list of features: - Guaranteed premium and death benefit. They may be rising in price, but the public clearly loves guarantees. Of course, the premium will be top 3 in most cells for you spread-sheeters out there.
- Upside potential. There has to be some cash in this product if the client over-funds, because as much as the public likes guarantees, they love cash. Don't forget the downside protection as well! No putting their principal at risk!
- Preferred loans. Need an income more than the guaranteed death benefit? OK. Use the preferred loans to turn on an income. Heck, let's even give the client the option to use variables loans, and change their mind back to fixed!
- Ready for the icing on the cake? How about a premium that drops over time? Why not put the trigger for that in the client's control? Maybe even reward them for doing something they do anyway, like going to the doctor? Why not let the premium stop all together?
Sounds too good to be true right? There is no way a product can do all of that is there? Turns out there is, and the product has been right under your nose the entire time. No, I am not talking about a type of product (although Equity Indexed UL is really the only type that can offer all of these features). I am talking about one very specific product, and it may be the best total policy holder value out there. It is the only one that has the reduced future premiums from the last bullet point. Curious? - Year 10 net premium = $8932
