Early Childhood Center Named One of Top Programs in New York for At-Risk Children
Our Early Childhood Center was selected by Social Impact Research (SIR) of Cambridge, Massachusetts as one of the top seven programs in New York to successfully prepare at-risk pre-school children for school. SIR, an independent research initiative of Root Cause, is modeled after private sector equity research firms, analyzes and distributes actionable information on social issues and recommends high performing nonprofits to help investors make informed philanthropic decisions.
SIR's Report for Lenox Hill Neighborhood House highlights our organizational health, Early Childhood Center performance and social and economic outcomes based on their determination of Best Approaches for school readiness. We were selected, using quantitative and qualitative factors, after an extensive analysis of organizations serving at-risk children that incorporate core components of best practices.

Thanksgiving Dinner Dance a Huge Success
Last week's Thanksgiving Dinner Dance for 450 seniors was a huge success! The food was delicious, spirits were high and the guests danced the night away to a wonderful jazz band after dinner. We also had an accompanied sing-a-long with professionals in the Senior Center for our clients who are more frail. We received visits from our elected officials--including New York City Comptroller John Liu, New York State Senator Liz Krueger and New York City Council Member Dan Garodnick--and had wonderful teams of volunteers again from New York Life and MetLife.

Park Avenue Armory Shelter Residents Visit New York Botanical Gardens

Residents from our Women's Mental Health Shelter at the Park Avenue Armory visited the New York Botanical Garden earlier this month. Residents had a great time exploring the gardens and had the chance to view the special Chrysanthemum exhibition.
Our Women's Mental Health Shelter, which operates 24/7, 365 days a year, provides a temporary home to 100 homeless women over the age of 45 living with serious mental illness. We use our comprehensive settlement house model to address the whole person; our fantastic staff includes social workers, a psychiatrist and nurse practitioner, housing specialists, peer advocates, lawyers, cooks and more. We continue to set the standard for mental health shelters: more than 60 women move out each year for permanent supportive housing of their own.
