Why the Web?
Reason #75

You'll Never Overspend on Monster Hardware

Not too many years ago DENTRIX debuted their latest gift to the dental profession: DENTRIX G2. As the first of the new G-series, G2 sported a newly designed tooth chart, replacing their iconic orange and yellow chart with a bruisy, blue and black chart with more realistic looking teeth. You could also view your charting on a 3D model and rotate the model using your mouse.

Pretty neat stuff.

Except for one small thing. All these new fangled features required monster video cards and oodles of RAM in order to work. While DENTRIX G2 marketing and sales drove existing and new customers to upgrade and purchase, many doctors were writing checks to their IT pro to upgrade their existing hardware so they could run the new software. And in the end, when the dust settled from the G2 launch, the value of the new features when compared to what was spent on new hardware raised serious questions.

With a web-based application you don't need to spend your money on monster hardware. You don't need 3D graphics cards. You don't need to stuff your computers with acres of RAM.

All you need is a computer, with Internet access and a browser.

Special Webinar Invitation from Dr. Lorne Lavine

Yes, everybody's talking about the cloud. And they should be. Using cloud-based software to manage your practice makes much more sense. But what about HIPAA compliance and security.

That's just one more reason why you should consider managing your practice using the cloud. This highly informative webinar will go deep, point by point, to show you how cloud-based dental software can actually make it easier for you to comply with HIPAA.

In this webinar we'll discuss:

  • The curious origins of HIPAA
  • The huge, personal risks for not paying attention to HIPAA compliance
  • How you can protect yourself with an audit
  • How the cloud helps you become and remain compliant with little to no effort on your part
  • A fascinating, point-by-point review of every security requirement and how the cloud stands up against traditional software
Bonus! Dr. Lavine will also present ten reasons why the Web makes sense, shatter common misperceptions, and show you, in real time, that Web-based dental software can help you manage your practice successfully-including digital imaging!

Dr. Lavine has long been considered the top dental technology expert in the world. Having worked with more than 1,600 practices, he is considered an expert in dental technology. His Digital Dentist newsletter has 26,000 subscribers and his blog is read by thousands every month.

A Future Brightened, A Life Changed
This is Julja before receiving treatment .
Tomorrow's SMILES Update

We introduced you to Jalja in a previous update. All she wanted was to be able to smile and not feel pain every single day. Jalja received dental care from a caring dental professional through Tomorrow's SMILES program and it has made a tremendous impact on her life.

Restoring her smile not only changed her lif

A beautiful and confident smile after treatment.

e, but touched the life of the dentist who provided Jalja with the much needed dental services. "In all my years, I have never had that feeling of appreciation from a patient. Thanks for making this possible for Jalja," said her Tomorrow's SMILES dentist.

Tomorrow's SMILES teens serve as mentors by teaching engaging oral health lessons to younger children in their community through the then Pay It Forward component of the program. "It was a very great feeling to be able to teach others kids about taking care of their teeth. I wouldn't want a child to have to go through what I did," remarked Jalja about her Pay It Forward experience.

Inspired by her experience through Tomorrow's SMILES, Jalja is working part-time in a dental clinic and on her way to reaching her dream of becoming a health professional. With the confidence to take on any challenge, she is now on her way to a happy, healthy future.

As a Tomorrow's SMILES teen, Jalja has renewed hope and a future filled with possibilities ahead of her....To learn more, look for more updates in your Curve Dental emails and visit us at www.TomorrowsSMILES.org. Secret of Life

Power Thought: Katherine Eitel and Associates

Last month, while observing operations at a client's office in Nashville, Tennessee, I wandered out into the reception area in search of a coffee refill. Sitting in a wheelchair, beautifully coiffured and dressed to the nines was an elderly woman, with frail bones and bright eyes, still retaining her obvious earlier beauty. We smiled at each other and as I began to fill my cup, she said, slightly louder than was necessary, "I'm almost 100, you know!"

Sensing the comment was directed at me, I turned and congratulated her and then asked, "What's the secret... to reach that milestone?" In the split second it took me to ask it, I had already anticipated she would slowly ponder the question, lean in, and whisper the "secret" intently to me. Instead, as if she had anticipated that very question already, she practically startled me by immediately shouting back, with the cutest grin and a clipped pace, "I keep busy, ask a lot of questions, forgive quickly... and frequently put my husband on a plane!"

I laughed out loud... as did everyone else seated in the room. She was adorable. And as I thanked her, wished her many more good years, and made my way back to work... I couldn't stop thinking about her short but poignant list for living a long and successful life.

  • I keep busy. We are wired to seek productivity and it feels good to us. It gives us a sense of pride and accomplishment. Filling our lives with satisfying, if not thrilling, work and hobbies that fascinate and interest us stimulates our intellect and fills our lives with purpose and joy.
  • I ask a lot of questions. It doesn't take long for most of us to realize that the more we know, the more we see there is to know. And assuming there are always other perspectives and new ways of seeing just about everything, keeps you open and available to more possibility in your life. Seeking to continuously expand your understanding requires an acknowledgement that your truth is only that. Yours. Not necessarily the one and only. Asking questions, noticing and limiting our assumptions, and nourishing a hunger for constant learning is clearly part of the secret!
  • I forgive easily. Releasing the internal burdens of bitterness, anger, and stories that grow and intensify over time helps us walk with a lighter step as well as a lighter heart.
  • Put my husband on a plane ... frequently. Loving someone and enjoying love in return is key to a full and rich life. But, so is never losing a sense of one's self. Taking time to understand, acknowledge and nourish what our bodies and minds need to live a whole and happy life is essential, as is keeping your brilliant sense of fun and humor.

I never got her name but let me go on the record to say I'm extremely grateful for the invaluable wisdom, the unexpected belly laugh... and the inspired view of 100!
