 | Why the Web? Reason #34
| The Worst Two Words You'll Never Hear: "Server Crash" Servers are expensive to buy, expensive to maintain, and expensive to fix when they crash. And they seem to crash at the least opportune time.
So why are they crashing? Maybe because it's sitting in a closet next to the mop bucket. Maybe because it's not adequately monitored by a certified technician. Maybe because it was purchased with "budget" on mind rather than "reliability".
The point here is to remind you that you're a dentist, not a server technician. So, unless you can afford to keep a server guy on staff or on retainer, that server's going to crash.
Solution: Get rid of the server! Web-based dental software, like Curve Hero, does not require a server. All that is required is a computer with a browser and Internet access. Which means no more server worries, no more server expenses, no more server guy expenses. You can learn more by calling 888-910-4376 or read more on our website. | |

Everything you ever wanted to know about dental floss:
First manufactured in 1882 it was made of silk. Today, the latest floss is made of Gore-Tex®. The average American buys 18 yards of floss annually; they should be buying 122 yards. Only 28% say they floss daily. In 1994 a West Virginia inmate braided floss into a rope, scaled a wall, and escaped.

 | Classic Dental Humor
| A patient sits in the dental chair with severely fractured front teeth. After discussing how they will be restored and what the fee would be the patient says, "Before we begin, Doc, I gotta know: Will I be able to play the trumpet when you are finished?"
The dentist replies, "Sure you will!"
The patient replies, "Great! I couldn't play a note before." More Dental Jokes...

Greetings! Are You Using Newspaper Ads to Attract New Hires? |
 | | Linda Miles |
|
Power Thought: Linda Miles
While most dentists use the newspaper to find employees, you can also get many non-qualified applicants who waste your time. I highly recommend telling your local dental sales representatives and other dentists in the community at dental meetings. The local dental assistant/hygiene associations often have employment chairpersons keeping a data base of those looking for a position or those seeking new staff. You may also use a placement agency many of which do the initial screening for you. Some dentists I know contact the dentists with current help wanted ads that have already done the interviewing process. If they had more than one qualified applicant, the second dentist offers to pay for the other dentist's ad for giving them the names and numbers of the other qualified person(s) for interviewing. (It's a good idea to get permission from the applicant first.) Check your local and state dental assisting and hygiene schools. Look to your staff and ask them if they know of anyone who may be a good candidate to talk with. Some offices have had outstanding results of hiring patients in their practice to join their team. It's better than hiring a stranger.
One of my clients sits down with his team having them write down all the personal traits they want the new hire to have. Then they write down names of people they know that may fit the qualifications. If the dentist hires one person that a particular staff member recommended, after the 90 day trial employment, the staff member making the recommendation receives a $400 recruitment bonus which is far less expensive than the ads and time involved in interviewing. Also, the employee who helps hire this person is much more likely to welcome them with open arms versus, "Oh, by the way I spent Saturday morning interviewing and your new co-worker will be here next Monday" routine. How Many Active Patients Do You Really Have?
|
 | | Sally McKenzie |
|
Power Thought: McKenzie Management
To determine a more accurate number of active patients, count the number of active patient records in your files. Active patients have had an appointment within the last 12 months. If the number of inactive records is enough to open a second practice, you have patient retention concerns. If you have not increased hygiene days, you're not increasing your patient base. If your hygienist's salary is more than a third of what s/he produces, and if you haven't converted 85% of your emergency patients, you are losing patients. Establish a patient retention strategy. | Complaining vs. Resourcefulness |
 | | Katherine Eitel |

Power Thought: Katherine Eitel and Associates
In 2010, you were either a victor or a victim. And so it will be in 2010. We've already seen the recession. Now what? Your success going forward will not be determined by the economy, the banking system, or the politicians. It will be 100% determined by you. Period. To get new results will require finding different answers to the questions we have. My favorite quote from Anthony Robbins is: "We never have a lack of resources. We often have a lack of resourcefulness." There's enough money. There are enough patients. There's enough time. There's enough love. Who of us will be the most resourceful in 2010 (and then probably be called "lucky"?). Who will make the connections and network for answers? Who will be willing to change what they're doing and how it's always been done to reflect the new reality? Who will be willing to shake up their current beliefs for ones that will serve them better? I will! How about you? Join me? More About Katherine Eitel and Associates... |
