Why the Web?
Reason #18
Instant Return on Your Investment.

All it takes is a quick Google search on "SaaS ROI" to discover that quite a few studies comparing ROI between client-server software and Web-based software have been completed. And the results are unanimous:
  • "According to a recent study by Triple Tree and the Software and Information Industry Association (SIIA), on-demand deployments are 50 to 90 percent faster, with a total cost of ownership less than for installed software."
  • "Massachusetts based Forrester Research suggests that on-demand deployments offer an economic advantage . . ."
  • "SaaS offers alternative ways of refining the company business model to take advantage of savings and improving process."

Fun Dental Facts
More than 51 million hours of school are lost each year by children due to dental related illness.
Classic Dental Humor
A husband and wife entered the dentist's office. The husband said,
"I want a tooth pulled.I don't want gas or Novocain because I'm in a terrible hurry. Just pull the tooth as quickly as possible."

"You're a brave man," said the dentist. "Now, show me which tooth it is."

The husband turns to his wife and says, "Open your mouth and show the dentist which tooth it is, dear."

Adaptive Leadership: The Four Quadrants of Choice
Katherine Eitel
Katherine Eitel
Power Thought: Katherine Eitel & Associates

Imagine yourself standing outside of a box divided into four quadrants which are labeled:  Lead, Follow, Change, and Get Out Of The Way.  Before you make a decision, start a conversation with a co-worker, or step into a selling situation with a client, you get to decide which of these boxes you'll "lead" from.  One box will be the most comfortable for you because it's likely where you've been operating from the longest, most frequently, and in which you have developed the most skill ... but all are viable and powerful leadership choices and positions.  Good leaders know they have a choice and there is a perfect time for each option.

Being proactively "at choice" is one of the cornerstones of great leadership.  Leaders notice their current position and choose their response instead of simply blindly reacting.

In my continued interview with corporate change agent, Ian McKelvie, we get a glimpse into this leadership model Ian calls The Leadership Choice.  He helps us understand that being "at choice" as a leader is more important than actually "making choices."  He gives a specific example of one conversation with a client where he used all four boxes, all four choices, at some point in that conversation.  We even talk about how leaders stay "at choice" ... even when there is only one option.  (Think Nelson Mandella in a prison cell in South Africa.)

How Your Team Can Reinforce the Treatment Plan
Linda Miles

Power Thought: Linda Miles & Associates

Clinical team members can be very instrumental in setting the stage for case acceptance with effective chairside communication. After patients hear the clinical diagnoses and the dentist's recommended treatment, they often look to the assistant or hygienist for verification. If the staff says: "Mrs. Parker, you are making a wise decision not to postpone your treatment as this is what can happen if you don't proceed with treatment soon". Or, "Many of our patients were hesitant about veneers wondering if it was wise to cover their natural teeth. After their smile was enhanced, their only regret is that they had not done this treatment long ago". And, "Dr. Brown is a fine dentist. I know because she is also my personal dentist," alleviates fear and hesitation for the dentistry patients deserve. Dentists can't toot their own horn and compliment their own skills, but having an enthused team member makes all the difference in case acceptance!

Communicating with Dental Imaging Software: Bridge vs. Integration vs. Native
New Orangepaper From Curve Dental

When it comes to different dental technologies, there appears to be some confusion over how different technologies work together. The past 15 years have provided an amazing (almost dizzying) array of options and acronyms and terms that are thrown around by reps of the different technologies. There is almost no semblance of unity.

At Curve Dental, we like simple communication. As a result, we have a specific definition for the way these different technologies work together that we like to use when we talk to each other in the company. If you would like, please feel free to adopt our terminology. Hopefully this document will make it clearer; or, if not clearer, at least it's one more view to throw into the mix.

There are 3 basic ways by which different technology products can work together:
  • Bridge
  • Integration
  • Native
Let's try and define these different methods and perhaps give a couple of examples of each.
