No Upfront and Pricey Software Fees.
With traditional client-server software you'll pay a bunch of dollars up front just to cover the licensing fees. Then, you'll pay another fortune for training and data conversion fees. And then after that, believe it or not, you'll pay a monthly fee for support, upgrades and electronic services. So really, to get started you'll need a bunch of money-or sign a lease and go into debt for your software! Ick! There's a better way that doesn't require a fortune to get started. With Curve you'll pay an implementation fee that's a fraction of what you'd pay for client-server software and then a small monthly fee every month. Dentist says to the patient: Could you help me? Could you
give out a few of your loudest, most painful screams?
Patient: Why? Doc, it isn't all that bad this time.
Dentist: There are so many people in the waiting room
right now and I don't want to miss the 7 o'clock tennis game.

Use Patient Education Tools to Effectively Communicate with Your Patients
|
Dr. Lorne Lavine | |
Power Thought: Dental Technology Consultants
As most dentists are well aware, the days of hanging up your shingle and patients flocking to the practice are long gone. Patients today are consumers, and like all other services, they have choices.
Most dentists will agree that the best patient is a well-informed patient, and as such, dental offices should really consider the use of patient education software. These programs can cover many bases for the practice.
While the doctor-patient relationship is usually critical, it shouldn't be the sole method to effectively communicate proposed treatment. Patient education software helps the patient see the whole picture: the why, the what, and the consequences of either moving forward with treatment or not moving forward with the condition.
Use of patient education software improves case acceptance ratios, which translates into increased production. More importantly (for some) improved case acceptance ratios improve oral health care among more people; the more people who accept proposed treatment the more people who have improved their oral health.
One such program that I'm currently excited about is CurveEd. Unlike many of the software systems out there, CurveEd is web-based; there no installation, no upgrade worries. They have over 60 videos, all narrated, many with excellent 3D animation. You can easily send video links to patients, and track whether the patient opened these email for informed consent. It works on the iPad, PC, and Mac. And, the best part? It's free! As in...free free. What do you have to lose?

Editor's Note: More than 3,600 dental professionals use CurveEd to effectively communicate with their patients. If you've not registered to use CurveEd, start today. If you've registered with CurveEd, be sure to use the system every day to enhance your presentation of proposed treatment.
