An Argument for the Web
#15: Your data is much better protected on the web than located on a "server in the broom closet"

For most dental practices the perfect server room was not a part of the original design. As a result, your server may be located in the same closet as the janitorial supplies, or under someone's desk, or sitting on a counter some place. Regardless of where it's at, or even if you do have a dedicated room for your server, your data is at more risk than were it to be placed on the Web. On the Web, your data is stored on multiple servers in multiple locations, secured by video surveillance cameras, climate control, restricted access, fencing, and security guards. You probably can't say the same thing about the server in your broom closet. To learn more call us at 888-910-4376.

Classic Dental Humor
A man went to his dentist because he feels something wrong in his mouth. The dentist examines him and says,
"that new upper plate I put in for you six months ago is eroding. What have you been eating?"

The man replies, "all I can think of is that about four months ago my wife made some asparagus and put some stuff on it that was delicious: Hollandaise sauce. I loved it so much I now put it on everything--meat, toast, fish, vegetables, everything."

"Well," says the dentist, "that's probably the problem. Hollandaise sauce is made with lots of lemon
juice, which is highly corrosive. It's eaten away your upper plate. I'll make you a new plate, and this time use
chrome."

"Why chrome?" asks the patient.

The dentist replies, "It's simple. Everyone knows that there's
no plate like chrome for the Hollandaise!"

Five Bad Habits that Shrink Your Practice
Linda Drevenstedt
Linda Drevenstedt
Power Thought: Drevenstedt Consulting, LLC
  1. Believing that pre-appointing hygiene patients IS a recall system.
  2. Burying your head in the sand because you don't LIKE or want to spend the time to manage your practice by the industry standard numbers.
  3. Not learning "how to mange and lead" people.
  4. Giving too much responsibility without oversight to someone.
  5. Giving too little responsibility and delegation to someone.

Hiring? Don't Settle for "Good Enough"
Sally McKenzie

Power Thought: McKenzie Management

Update or write a job description for the position and tailor it to attract the employee you need. This is a critical tool in the hiring process. It clarifies what skills the applicant must possess, explains what duties they will perform, and it assures that you will have a clear objective when considering each candidate's credentials. If you know exactly what you're looking for, you're less likely to settle for "good enough."

Too Many Cancellations?

Power Thought: The Practice Source

If your answer is "yes", then the question is "Why?"  What's your diagnosis?
  • Are verbal skills ineffective in motivating patients to keep appointments?
  •  Do you move patient appointments frequently?
  • Do you expect all payments at the time of service?
  • Are patients unclear about their dental needs?
To turn the situation around, be honest about what is causing the problem. Problems with internal operations, lackluster systems and not taking control of the schedule are usually the culprit.  Once the reason(s) has been determined, develop an action plan to solve it.  Be objective.  Don't blame. Be solution-oriented.

And finally...what are you going to do with all the extra time you used to spend filling openings in the schedule?
