Welcome to town Jack Frost!

Winter Frost
courtesy: Kenny Lone
Well, those beautiful summer days are behind us for a few chilly months.   Things get slower in Marysvale as soon as the first digit in the thermometer is less than "4".  We have already seen a few nights below zero, and even the Broccoli plants decided it was too much for them.    Unfortunately most of the garden gave it up much earlier this year thanks to a couple of early frosty nights.   I guess we won't be eating fresh tomatoes at Christmas this year.

Here is to wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!

Sincerely,

Darin Bushman
Marysvale Chamber President

The Funnest Little Town in the World
By Bryan and Ana Maria Burrell

Marysvale could be voted the "the funnest little town in the world". ).....Yes "funnest" is a real word. First, because we all understand it and second because I looked it up in the collegiate dictionary. Something you hear all the time around here. "Our grandkids love Marysvale". This phrase has been repeated for generations past and will surely be repeated for many generations to come. Maybe its because the best grandmothers all live in Marysvale or maybe it is also because there are so many fun things to do in and around Marysvale:

Some like to swim at the local swimming hole.

Others say it is the Marysvale parade where its at.

Or the" biggest little rodeo in the world" .

Or the "biggest little fish rodeo in the world".

Some like fishin' at one of the lakes. Piute, Otter Creek, and Fish Lake  can all produce rainbows like this. If trolling a rapala doesn't work try a christmas tree spinner setup with a worm.

Or try fishing at the creek.  Pine Creek (Bullion Canyon) and many more can be a place where a child can catch their first one. Just use a  number 8 hook with a split shot with a worm and let it flow with the current in one of the deeper holes.

Ride the range on your own caballo or rent a good one.

See the spring globe mallows at the old Elbow Ranch.

Marysvale is also known as "The center of ATV universe" ... a fun place to visit if you like things that go in the dirt. Be sure to wave at other people...it is a Marysvale tradition.

You can play with your little boats in the creek.

Jam with your friends and family.

Help grandma in the garden.

Explore the history of the Fremont Indians.

Or just play in the swings at the Marysvale Park.

Learn how grandma used to do it.

Marysvale, a good place to be with your grandkids !

What is the "lure" of Marysvale?

Over a 100 years ago what "lured" people to the Marysvale area was quite different.  The town was a successful mining town full of miners, government workers, and merchants.  Now this town' major income comes from tourism.   What "lured" us to Marysvale was when a friend shared the pictures from their family vacation on the Paiute Trail.  We thought, this would be a great place to "visit" on our way to Colorado.  That was almost 10 years ago and we still haven't made it to Colorado.  That year we stopped for a couple days in Marysvale and spent our entire vacation here.  Then year after year, the vacations got longer and longer until 2 years ago in October, we decided to retire in Marysvale and purchased what is now, "Connie & Greg's Pine Creek Cabins".  There is just something that grabs hold of your heart and you can't wait to come back.

The residence and visitors of years ago came for different reasons.  Some still might be here to find their "fortune" but many came because they love what Marysvale had to offer.  That's the reason we came.  We were "lured" by the beauty, the people, the canyon.  It truly is a DESTINATION. You need time to explore the extensive Paiute Trail on your ATV/UTV, fish, horseback ride, white water raft, bike, hike, or just relax...and in Marysvale you CAN have it all.  There are so many day trips to take on your ATV or take a scenic drive to one of the many National and State Parks which are just a couple hours away.  START PLANNING NOW for your 2011 vacation.  Share your story about what has "lured" you to Marysvale and it might be in a future addition of "The Progress".

We were lured and came to visit and fell in love, how about you?

Track 89 Resort Village:

Track 89 Resort Village at the World Famous Big Rock Candy Mountain has been the vision of two brothers; Steve and David Grow.  It went from a dream to the beginning of reality in just over 1 year.

The first caboose arrived via truck Oct 30, 2009 from Payson Utah where RR extraordinaire George Jones restores vintage cabooses and gives them a new live.  Currently there are 4 more cabooses being restored and upgraded with full bathrooms, kitchenettes and queen beds.

Nov. 5th 2010 there were 3 more pads set and readied for the next arrival.   The first of the next four cabooses should be arriving early spring 2011 with more to soon follow.

There will be a total of 9 cabooses and the 3 box cars that are already on site that will also be converted for guest lodging while enjoying everything the area has to offer.

The RR Bridge crossing the Sevier River is close to being complete and will provide access and restrooms for the Candy Mountain Express Bike Path and a trail head for PST 21 and PST 74 that runs north from Big Rock Resort.
