Busy Days in Marysvale

oldmarysvale As one might imagine things are busy in Marysvale, all the business folks are head down and hard at work as we have lots of visitors in our little burg this time of year.   It's always good to see so many new faces in Marysvale.  We were grateful for many of you who stepped up and helped us get through the high water without any real damage to property or person.  Most of the trails are open now except the 01 trail over the top of the Tushars which we are hoping will open mid to late July.  If Marysvale has made it into your schedule for the summer we are thrilled with your decision.

Sincerely,

Darin Bushman
Marysvale Chamber President

What did Pioneer Days look like in 1918 ??
As printed in the Piute Chieftain August 1, 1918

Poineer Day is Observed

Marysvale's celebration of Pioneer Day proved the crowning feature of the season and the occasion was one of the most enjoyable of its kind ever held in this town.  The several committees having the celebration of Utah's day in hand left nothing undone to make the event a memorable one and from the starting of the parade in the morning until the playing of "Home Sweet Home" at the dance in the evening, there was one continual round of pleasure and enjoyment.  A number of visitors from adjoining towns swelled the crowds and everything passed off without an accident or mishap to mar the pleasure.

In the morning the parade was started and after coursing the principal streets, wended its way to Starks Grove where the festivities of the day were held.  In the parade was represented the pioneers in many phases. The old hand-carts, the dilapidated wagons, the tired and travel-stained pioneers seeking the Valley of Eden. Altogether the parade was a typical depiction of the early arrivals in this country.  Isiah Howes, who arrived in the valley in 1868 was the only pioneer in the parade.  Mr. Howes, who is past 71 years of age, arrived at Marysvale in 1868 and has resided here most of the time since.

When the pioneers had arrived at the grove for a rest, a band of Indians attacked the party and a mimic battle followed in which the trials and hardships of the early settlers were shown.  Immediately following a program was rendered and well received.  Judge Samuel L. Page was the principal speaker and in his brief address he gave an outline of the coming of the pioneers to Utah.

A big basket lunch was enjoyed at noon by the hundreds present and in the afternoon a big program of sports was given and in the evening many of the younger folks enjoyed a dance at the Airdome.
