Greetings!

Many of the families at OSOT America will be separated from their loved ones this Christmas.  You are in our thoughts and prayers.   We wanted to share this joyful family....

WELCOME HOME MATT!

And thanks Nancy for the huge number of hours that you volunteer at OSOT America.

My Name is 1LT Ryan.  I am the platoon commander for an engineer platoon operating in the southwest portion of Afghanistan.  I received your package yesterday while operating in a remote patrol base.  A convoy rolled up to our position, dropped it off with some other mail, and left again.  It was a wonderful surprise!  I took a few things for myself and then my guys split up the rest.   The snack food was a big hit especially the home baked looking garlic bread.   The Cigar Snob magazine has made the rounds and is very popular.  The items were very useful for life out here.  Hand sanitizer, baby wipes and foot powder are like gold out here.  The letters from kids are a big morale boost as well.  We all sacrifice a lot to be here and thank yous are always good.  Thank you for the things you do back home to support us out here.  It means a lot.

Now the interesting thing here....his box was mailed back in OCTOBER!  It took over six weeks to arrive at this remote location.   And his wife sent this email:

To all your volunteers:

I received a letter from my husband today who has been out on missions stating that he received your box! A quote from his letter:

"The package was awesome! ... it makes me feel so loved! I took some of the stuff and shared the rest."

Thank you for your generosity! The package will mean more to him than you will ever know! To receive one from other than me is just amazing. Thank you for help and your endless hours of dedication to these guys and gals. It does not go unnoticed!

Thank you,

1st Lt. Ryan USMC and his wife Lindsey
Thank you very much for the care package.  It means a great deal to us to receive gifts from total strangers, but we all are Americans, and that is why our country is so great.

This is my second tour to Afghanistan.  My name is Tim, I am an E-4 Specialist in the Army.  I am just a mechanic in the HHBN motorpool on KAF (Kandahar Air Field).

This is the first time I have received a care package addressed to me specifically.  My last time here our platoon lived next to the chaplain and he got tons of packages from his congregation so he offloaded them on us, it was great. Of course, not as good as this one you sent.  I really appreciate the time you took to put this together and the money spent to send it.

I want to thank you again and I hope all of you have a great Holiday season.  God Bless you and keep you safe.

Sincerely,
Tim
