Hi Everyone from New York!
This Chronicle is coming directly from the "Big Apple!" Just returned fromTImes Square the Dog Writer's Association of America's awards banquet dinner at the Affinia Manhattan Hotel. This is my second one. As last year I met some very nice people, and actually was able to sit with a few of the same people that I sat with last year. One obvious difference was that my good friend Denise Fleck and her husband Paul were not able to attend. But she was represented with a nice advertisement which by coincidence was on the exact opposite page as ours! Please feel free to forward this email using the forward email button at the bottom of this page!
Butch and I hope you enjoy the MBB Chronicle and we hope we can help you love your pet a little bit more!
Sincerely,
Jeff and Butch

It's that time of year again. Westminster! Our coverage will continue this Thursday with our Westminster Special featuring interviews from some of the contestants. Be sure to watch on television as they choose the "Best in Show" Westminster Champion on USA Network and CNBC in New York City on Tuesday Night 8pm February 16th. Dr. Patrick Mahaney will be joining us also to discuss more on his findings on the canine ailments that some of the past winners have experienced and what the breeds are prone to have problems with.  I'll be talking about the experience of the show and also about attending the DWAA Awards Banquet where the best dog related books, articles, web sites, and publishers were honored for 2009. In addition, as luck would have it, I met a young man from Canton, Ohio. Michael Thomas, 16 years old, and handling a standard Schnauzer for his first visit to Westminster. We are going to be doing a series of shows with him as a Jr. Handler and find out how he got started and what you can do if you are interested! I will also be posting the pictures from Westminster 2010 and the NY Cityscape on our media page.
Article Feature - Westminster from New York!
Westminster Gondola Author: Jeff Marginean
I'm happy to be writing to you from the 134th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show at Madison Square Garden here in New York. If you would have told me 5 years ago that I would be here, not just once, but twice in the last year covering this most prestigious of dog shows for our own radio show, I definitely would not have agreed with you. Not that I'm not interested, I have been watching Westminster on TV many years before Butch came along. It's just that I never thought I would have the opportunity to be here, much less in the capacity of covering it for the My Buddy Butch Radio Show. This is the "Tournament of Champions" as ALL of the dogs in the show have had to earn the right to be invited or eligible and have attained the "Champion" moniker "Ch" in front of their registered names. Now, as we have said on the show, despite the fancy grooming and care that you see on TV to make these dogs look great, at the end of the day they are pets. Funny pets, loved pets, and pets who like to romp around just like any other dog including YOUR dog! Seeing the dogs walk around the streets of New York on their way to and from the Garden, you could easily forget that they are here to compete. The expressions on their faces is just like any other dog. Their sniffing around people and sniffing everything they pass on the street is testament to their life on this earth...they are dogs - no more, no less. The excitement builds as you enter the arena and see these dogs in their element, the show ring. Seeing the work to prepare them and then actually seeing them strut their stuff is quite a transformation which, in some cases, is done by a team of people that the biggest pop star might have working on them before starting a concert! When I get home, I am going to start our own dog show and Butch will be the only dog entered and will always be the winner! So as we watch Westminster crown the "Best in Show" on Tuesday evening, remember the dog sitting beside you on the couch is the real winner!
Did You Know...
Westminster Dog Show
As we have had David Frei, your host for the Westminster Kennel Club Dog show join us these past couple of weeks, he educated us on the history of Westminter and origin of the show. 1877 was the first year of the show in New York and it was started by a group of sportsman who would gather at their local tavern in the "Westminster Hotel" to talk about hunting and began wondering who had the best hunting dog. There have been 134 annual shows including this year and The Kentucky Derby is the only event that is older by 1 year!
